  1. The wire should go to a kill switch button on the handle to shut down the engine by grounding the coil. Location of the switch depends on the model. One port is an air vent. It goes from the bottom of the tank to just inside of the fuel cap. The other port is the fuel feed to the carb. More than likely it will need a new carb diaphragm to run or run correctly. Check the air filter BEFORE trying to start it. If it has that old crusty material inside, it will need to be thoroughly cleaned out. Otherwise it will be sucked into the engine. Not good. If you use the search feature you can find other threads on the Drillgine drills. Here's a link to the search results for "Drillgine" in topics only. There are threads on the early reds and later yellows https://myoldmachine.com/search/?q=drillgine&quick=1&type=forums_topic
  2. Hello everyone, just picked up a Olson and Rice Drillgine yesterday and was taking it apart to do a good clean up and see if I can get it running. The red wire that goes through the handle comes out around the magneto is not connected to anything. Wondering if any of you guys might snap a picture for me of where it goes. Also the fuel lines are not attached and I see two ports on the fuel tank and only found one place on the carb to attach a fuel line and I'm guessing that goes on the lower port of the tank. Thanks for any help you guys can give
  3. As best as I can tell this is a first generation drillgine with the O&R type 100 3/4hp engine (serial 013352). I bought this drill a while back. It was seized up tight. I tried my best to save this one. It sat in my heated ultrasonic for three days vibrating away. I even went to the extent of putting the crankcase in my lathe to cut the cylinder off to save the piston and rod. Sadly the engine was too far gone and it was not meant to be. When my parting tool grabbed the port on the steel liner the crankcase got pulled out of the chuck on my lathe and bye bye went the crankcase. I was able to save the crankshaft from this mess. I am not going to get around to this project anytime soon so I figured I would offer it up for parts should someone be needing them for their drillgine, or if someone wanted to be ambitious and rebuild this one. I did find one repair on the drill which actually looks well done. The drill case has been tig welded up and someone added a little bent steel bracket to better support the handle. I realize this is not in great shape, and I am not looking to get rich on it. I will ship this drill anywhere in the USA. Please send me a private message if interested with your offer. Thanks Chris
  4. A new addition to the O&R collection arrived today, a Drillgine drill Quite tidy and will soon join its colleagues in the shed...
  5. Hello All, i have some carburetor problems with my drillgine of nov. 1975 no: 13B403 and 5110787. Its not possible to get fuel over the pump. The vent of this carburetor is a little rubber knob and i think this thing does not work. However the fuel goes just a little bit don and high inside the fueltube. I dont like to put acarburetor of a newer machine on the drillgine. So does someone maybe knows how to become parts für this carburetor, or a other carburetor? I live in Germany Thanks Jens
  6. Hi, I found this site while trying to get information on these 2 units that I recently acquired. There is a wealth of information here and I certainly appreciate learning about these small industrial OR engines as I've had no previous experience with them.... So I need your help. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated as I would like to get these running again. First up is the Tiny Tiger 300. Here is a picture: I was able to find a type number 111 and a serial number 026152. Can you provide an engine model and date of manufacture based on this information? The recoil starter handle/knob is missing. Does anyone have these for sale? Would the correct one be the early wood stained or painted black one? The recoil started works but does not engage the starter pawls on the flywheel. I have no experience with this so I need help. Here is a picture: I assume there is a spring of some sort missing. Is that correct or is there something else not installed correctly? There is a washer underneath each pawl. I would like to purchase carb kits for both this engine and the Drillgine. I assume the same kit works on both but not sure. The Drillgine is a newer 1969 vintage engine (I think) based on the serial number 936515. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Frank Z
  7. The earlier versions were made in red and without a speed control
  8. I recently purchased this 1967 Drillgine. It’s in good condition. But I haven’t been able to get it running. It seems to be getting intermittent spark and I found the primer pump was plugged. The fuel inlet to the pump was plugged. The diaphragm is hard and distorted. I don’t have any instructions or diagrams to work from. The numbers on the cylinder plate is 13B352 5010952 Thank you for any help Dennis.
  9. Thought you all might appreciate this cool photo from 1967 of a guy tapping a Maple tree with a Drillgine.
  10. There's an Aqua Bug outboard out there that had no plastic cover or tank when it was bought so I added a drillgine type tank. Those outboards actually look more old school cool without the cover and that one always got attention when taken to the shows for display. Probably because everything is visible. Think I'll start with that one and pull it apart and rebuild or replace that engine. Maybe then a Mini Motor and another Aqua Bug I also have a rare Polaris Power Pole outboard still sitting in a box and all parts from shipping. It's the same tool/engine that @Laserscottman had when he made the famous carb tutorial thread years back. Can't remember how deep he went into it but think he went through everything on it except for actually rebuilding the engine. Work is a bit slow this year so might as well stay on a roll getting some O&R stuff done that's been on the back burner for too many years.
  11. I'd have to figure it out. Like change engines on a Drillgine or TT. The cranks don't have the slots in the little taper so it's more limited otherwise I could do a circular saw. Plus some of the tools are the early style engines so the coils are different. Don't think I have any tools that don't have engines on them so might just rebuild some of those that haven't been done yet and keep these as spares. Do you happen to know what crank end type was used for the outboards? I'd have no problem swapping engines on those if the crank is right.
  12. Hi gentelman, This weekend I started restoring a Dilllgine with O&R engine. Restoring is a big word, the parts are mostly dirty. The parts are in good condition. But I do have some questions regarding availability of parts and tips. This is my first O&R project and second small engine project. So I could use some advice! I do hope I did not put to many questions in one thread..... 1) First the seal between engine part and drill part. Seen in this picture but when I tried to take it off it snapped in three pieces. Are new available? Or other solutions? 2) Then gaskets. Are there gaskets available from the drill gearbox? And the carburetor? (a new diaphragm is comming my way) I have salvaged the gasgets as good as possible and can always use liquid stuff or try to cut new ones myself but NOS is much more easy. 3) Then air filter. The original filter was totally decomposed. I think that a new piece can be inserted trough the opening? What do others, use a piece of standard material and what? 4) The gas cable. I thought is was connected to the carb but when I took things apart I am not sure anymore. Does this cable miss something? Can someone post a picture? 5) The yellow parts need a respray. Someone did half once and now it's duo colored. So I took the starter rope etc. apart and shocked of the spring jumping out. That will need to be re winded. But how many turns?? The engine and all other parts cleaned out real nice. I think the used materials are of high quality? Even the bare alu tubes have no traces of corrosion. And the colored bits. (are decals available?)
  13. Looking for carb parts for o&r motor can you give me some help please need needle assembly mine is broke off. Maybe a diaphragm gasket kit. Clip for throttle cable
  14. I have been busy inventorying all of my engines, and came across my old Drillgine. It has a model 13B 403 engine # 6092030. It is rated 1hp according to the sticker on the factory toolbox. In my search for information, I need to verify some specifications on this engine. Am I correct that the model 13B has a 1-1/4" bore, and 1.096" stroke, with 1.34 cubic inch, 21.9cc displacement, rated 1hp @ 6300rpm. I have found conflicting rpm numbers for the 1hp rating, 6300 or 7000. I have the year 1967 written down for it, is that correct? It starts and runs real good even after its four or so year slumber. Chris
  15. Hello All, i got an ice Auge driller for less money (25€) here in Germany. I like this little old machines much. My old o&r Drillgine gone broken some years ago… I didn’t found much informations about this tool online. Does anybody has a manual? First thing I have to do, is to clean it. Than I have to change the old fuel line. Maybe after these things I will mix fuel and try to start it 😄 to bore a hole into wood… greetings from Germany Jens
  16. I know there is a lot experience and knowledge of these O&R enigne powered machine on here, so I thought I'd dip a toe in the water and post this sorry sight in a Tray- From a quick scan of the topics on here, I presume the red paint indicates an early-ish model. The engine cowling is a devoted effort by someone in the past to repair or keep running this unit without replacement parts being available, as the retractable pullstart is long gone. Being offered it, I'm tempted to have a go at it, but doubt if I could get it back to original appearance, the cost and availablility of parts and the current condition. The only numbers I could see on the motor are shown here- This being in the UK will not be so easy to sort, so may put under the bench for some 'over winter' repair therapy?. Regards
  17. Did some investigating today in search of a replacement kill switch for one that is broken on one of my O&R tools. I thought this might be helpful if anyone else is in need of a similar replacement. The little red push button switch looks to be identical to the Switchcraft 951 from Switchcraft. They have a model “A”, “B”, and “C” and I think it is the “A” version. I have one on order and will confirm once I receive it. This photo is of a good working order switch on a Drillgine. Clint
  18. I’ve started digging into a Drillgine and I’m about to open up the gearbox. I noticed there are two threaded screw plugs that look to be oil fill holes, one on each side of the gearbox. Is this gearbox intended to be filled with oil or a light grease like Lubriplate. If it’s oil, what weight/type and how much? Also, if anyone has any tips on things to watch out for or common surprises when opening these gearboxes please let me know. is there a good substitute for the large rubber seal/ring that is on the outside output side of the engine between the engine and the gearbox? Thanks, Clint
  19. This nice brochure arrived this morning all theway from Canada...
  20. I disassembled the carbs on both and found them in inoperable condition as soon as the diaphragms were removed. I assume previous owners (without access to this great site) put the parts together as shown. Tiny Tiger: Drillgine: Note the Tiny Tiger carb has the rubber check valve and the Drillgine has the ball valve. Diaphragm Roller was missing from the Tiny Tiger carb and the Arm Spring had a broken leg on the Drillgine carb. Roller was under laying under the arm out of position on the Drillgine. It doesn't look like you can just interchange the ball valve for the rubber valve as the seats are different. Ball valve casting on the left, rubber valve casting on the right: Unfortunately the rubber valve/arm assembly looks like this:
  21. Having looked at one of the carbs with the primer button, I can tell you that the hole for the primer mechanism is larger than the hole that nail is fitted through. I suspect your carb top is one of the later ones where they omitted the primer function for some unknown reason, we have seen these on a few later engines, for example this generator I have has the later blank carb top. But oddly my 1978 Drillgine (AEP branded) does have the primer button, it has the same type 13B403 engine as your 1975 Drillgine. David
  22. As seen in the first picture in this topic, my Tiny Tiger came mounted on a wooden base. Would anyone have a measured drawing they would be willing to share so I can make one that is close to original? I assume it is aluminum plate and I'll need to know thickness in addition to overall measurements. Or if someone is willing to just trace the outline and mail it to me? Send a PM and I'll reply asap. Thanks! Update on the Drillgine: I purchased a couple diaphragm & gasket kits and took some parts from the Tiny Tiger carb and was able to assemble a complete primer diaphragm unit. I installed it on the Drillgine and last night tried to start it. On the second pull, the starter rope come out in my hand... So now I'm learning that replacement process which is thankfully outlined in the service manual I downloaded from Factory's topic. Thanks Factory! Hopefully I will get the Drillgine running this weekend.
  23. In order to see if I had spark on the Tiny Tiger, I took the flywheel and recoil starter assembly from the Drillgine and installed them on the Tiny Tiger. This allowed me to be able to turn the engine over using the recoil starter cord. After cleaning the points and setting proper gaps on the points, mag, and plug, I was able to get spark. That is the good news. The bad news is that there is a difference in the recoil starter reels between these two. I was not able to put the original blower housing/starter assembly on the Tiny Tiger after installing the flywheel and starter pawls/dogs from the Drillgine. It was very close to fitting up but the blower housing would not seat against the backing plate. Here is a picture showing both blower housings/starter reels with an arrow pointing to the difference: The Drillgine housing/starter reel is on the left, the Tiny Tiger on the right. So if I'm able to source the newer, more common starter pawls/dogs, I may also need a different starter reel as well.
  24. Hi Rick There were 2 sizes over the years but I believe a drillgine would have the larger of the 2. they are 1/16 and 3/32 ball bearings. If you have an old school hardware store close by you can find them in the drawers with all that small stuff
  25. After a couple weeks with no time to dedicate to these, I have an update: On the Drillgine, I had to reinstall the starter pull cord and also fix the end of the recoil spring that sticks out through the blower housing so it would stay in place. Then with the new diaphragm in the carb I was able to get her running. Chucked up a 3/8" drill bit and drilled some holes through a 2x4 to see how it ran under load. Runs nicely. On the Tiny Tiger, I had taken some carb parts and used them to get the Drillgine going and needed some other parts. Wallfish is in the process of shipping me parts he had this week. Hopefully that will get me further along to the point I can try to start it. I still need the wooden handle for the pull cord. It is the wooden longer black handle with ball end. Would anyone have dimensions they would share with me (Thanks again DustyB for the awesome base diagram!) I'll need overall length, shank length, and diameter of ball end. If someone provides this information, I'll try my hand at turning one on the wood lathe.
