Rocboni 257 #1 Posted October 3, 2014 Hi there, Thought I'd start a restoration thread for my mg6, won't be all this year but will start with the bits I've done this year, started with sandblasting! 1 Ian reacted to this

nigel 1,877 #3 Posted October 4, 2014 cor what i would give to have a workshop like that
Rocboni 257 #4 Posted October 4, 2014 Yes, well I must confess it's not actually mine, but I have keys and access whenever needed. Most of the work is actually done outside or in my small shed which is full. Been refurbing the wheels today, all the wheels are shot and need new hardened sleeves and new bronze bushes, a job for the lathe! old bushes had to be pressed out first. Ian 2,417 #9 Posted October 5, 2014 A great start to your project, one to follow for sure Is the chap is the 3rd pic sandblasting or just trying to blow snow away?
Rocboni 257 #10 Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) Got a quote for blasting them from a local basted and it was £350 each! So rented a blasting pot and baught 1/2 ton of crush class blasting media and done it myself, it was a truly horrible job and took a whole day to do all the bits. Never again, it's strange what we do for fun. Edited October 5, 2014 by Rocboni
nathanwhittaker 50 #11 Posted October 15, 2014 I went out and bought my own blaster too. Quick qquestion do you know how the fuel pipe runs on the dumpers ?
Rocboni 257 #12 Posted October 24, 2014 Bit of engine rebuilding.... Crank reground, valves blasted refaced and seats re cut. New seals, big end shells ect.
Rocboni 257 #13 Posted October 26, 2014 Rebuilt the fuel pump this morning after a trip to get the missing peice. Nearly finished rebuilding the engine ready for a test, then it will be painted. Skimmed the brake drums today as well, still pitted but will work fine, a lot better than they were any way! Why are the pictures loading the wrong way round? Rocboni 257 #14 Posted November 30, 2014 Slow progress, but it's winter! Engine and wheels painted
Stormin 4,458 #15 Posted November 30, 2014 Nice work. But what I've seen at Johnathans only to be expected. 1 Rocboni reacted to this
expeatfarmer 591 #16 Posted December 6, 2014 I see you have sneaked a pulley on to the flexi drive coupling/clutch case, is that for a pump or a dynamo? If you are after lights, I bought a pair of brand new ford Dexta lights off Flea bay for £28.
Rocboni 257 #17 Posted December 6, 2014 It's for a dynamo Jonathan, going to fit the lights that you suggested.
Rocboni 257 #18 Posted December 6, 2014 Finished the engine, I always forget how big they are when they have the shrouds on!
Chris 642 #20 Posted December 6, 2014 These are heavy lumps also
Rocboni 257 #21 Posted December 6, 2014 Sure are, they are ok until you bolt the flywheel on! I usually have to man handle them onto the crawler as I done have an engine crane.
Rocboni 257 #22 Posted January 15, 2015 I've baught another small shed so that I could get on with the restoration. As usual on these crawlers, the front of the crawler under the engine had rusted away so this morning I cut it out and welded a new peice of steel in, all I need to do is drill the hole in it for the engine drain plug. 1 nigel reacted to this
Rocboni 257 #23 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Managed to get the bottom and the inside of the geaebox painted ready for the rebuild. Edited January 15, 2015 by Rocboni
Rocboni 257 #24 Posted January 16, 2015 Built up the main gear box and fitted the 3 speed gearbox tonight.
Stormin 4,458 #25 Posted January 16, 2015 Interesting. I get an idea of how the steering works now. How do the levers operate the brakes?
