Ransomes MG6

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Thought I'd start a restoration thread for my mg6, won't be all this year but will start with the bits I've done this year, started with sandblasting!

Yes, well I must confess it's not actually mine, but I have keys and access whenever needed.

Most of the work is actually done outside or in my small shed which is full.

Been refurbing the wheels today, all the wheels are shot and need new hardened sleeves and new bronze bushes, a job for the lathe! old bushes had to be pressed out first.

Got a quote for blasting them from a local basted and it was £350 each! So rented a blasting pot and baught 1/2 ton of crush class blasting media and done it myself, it was a truly horrible job and took a whole day to do all the bits. Never again, it's strange what we do for fun.

Rebuilt the fuel pump this morning after a trip to get the missing peice.

Nearly finished rebuilding the engine ready for a test, then it will be painted.

Skimmed the brake drums today as well, still pitted but will work fine, a lot better than they were any way!post-294-0-60973800-1414315281_thumb.jpgpost-294-0-55359500-1414315418_thumb.jpgpost-294-0-94395400-1414315436_thumb.jpgpost-294-0-75715600-1414315389_thumb.jpg

Why are the pictures loading the wrong way round?

I see you have sneaked a pulley on to the flexi drive coupling/clutch case, is that for a pump or a dynamo?

If you are after lights, I bought a pair of brand new ford Dexta lights off Flea bay for £28.

Sure are, they are ok until you bolt the flywheel on!

I usually have to man handle them onto the crawler as I done have an engine crane.

I've baught another small shed so that I could get on with the restoration. As usual on these crawlers, the front of the crawler under the engine had rusted away so this morning I cut it out and welded a new peice of steel in, all I need to do is drill the hole in it for the engine drain plug.
