Alan 1,273 #1 Posted January 27, 2016 Another item found weeks ago while clearing John's barn. We have picked it up, puzzled over it, scratched our heads and put it down again numerous times. Someone will hopefully have an answer. 8" long and the only marking is No 2 on the handle. As can be seen on the photo's, I hope, sliding the central bar forward opens out the end of the side arms slightly which are closed again via the spring when the bar is retracted. Hope this is clear. 1 Triumph66 reacted to this

Alan 1,273 #7 Posted January 28, 2016 That was one of our thoughts Mark, but couldn't see how it would have worked.
Wristpin 400 #8 Posted January 28, 2016 Havn't got any collets handy but these give the general idea . Very useful when working within the confines of an L head valve chest. 1 nigel reacted to this

Wristpin 400 #12 Posted January 28, 2016 Beats a lump of grease on the end of a screwdriver! Hazet tools are still in existence with a lot of special valve related tools for current vehicles but I can't see the collet tool in the on-line listings. I've never seen another in anyone's tool collection. I bought mine in the late 70s from a catalogue company called Gerald Staines of Ross on Wye who also did workshop assortment boxes , split pins etc under the brand name of Nubo . nigel 1,876 #13 Posted January 28, 2016 I remember nubo but I've never seen one of those tools Angus I wonder if I ask Alan nicely whether he will give me his 😀
Alan 1,273 #14 Posted February 8, 2016 Yet another tool found at John's. About 2.5" x 2.5" Adjustable and lockable plungers.? Marked 0 to 1/4. Can't make out the makers name. Some sort of measuring gauge. ? Someone must know.
Stormin 4,458 #15 Posted February 9, 2016 My guess is a measuring gauge as you suggest, Alan. Used on a lathe. Outer jaws set to NO GO. Inner to GO.
meadowfield 1,900 #16 Posted February 9, 2016 Norm is right, it's a snap gauge, set the jaws to max/min. Worked piece has to be within the two.
Alan 1,273 #17 Posted February 9, 2016 Thanks Norm and Mark. Obvious when pointed out. I hadn't thought of it as max / min. I knew someone on MoM would probably know.
