C-101plowerpower 548 #1 Posted March 16, 2016 as the title says i could use some input from the ransomes experts on here. the cylinder on my mg2 is looking a bit sorry, what i would like to know is if it can be reused or if i'm better off looking for a better cylinder and head. anyway here are the pictures
Stormin 4,458 #2 Posted March 16, 2016 That looks a mess. I'm no Ransomes expert, but I think I'd be looking for another cylinder and head.
the showman 4,074 #3 Posted March 16, 2016 I know nothing about engines Koen but that looks like a bin job to me
S1g 579 #4 Posted March 16, 2016 I've seen worse, if you can easily find replacement parts then great I'd go that way, however if you can't, I'd get the valve seats recut and if they come up ok you should be able to have the outlet repaired.
Rocboni 257 #5 Posted March 16, 2016 Have the valve seats re cut, (I don't mean ground) and if need be helicoil the plug thread, should be OK after that, don't worry about the chunk out of the exaust port, as long as you can get a pipe in, it will be held by the bracket on the body. expeatfarmer 591 #6 Posted March 16, 2016 I have a spare spare barrel and head in better condition. That one looks like hard work and expense, you could braze a piece in to the exhaust to try and stop it blowing.
Chris 642 #7 Posted March 16, 2016 Looking at that I would find a better replacement. But would give it a go. In that state I would be more worried on what the rest of the engine is like

the showman 4,074 #9 Posted March 16, 2016 What would that barrel and ead cost? You'll have to come over and collect it Koen 1 diggerjames reacted to this
expeatfarmer 591 #10 Posted March 17, 2016 How does £60 plus carriage sound? I will dig it out and post some pics. Did you not say that there were two more where that came from, would it be worth getting another with hopefully better engine and breaking it for spares or are the others in a worse state?
