the showman 4,074 #1 Posted March 24, 2016 Found these 3 small ridgers and want to put them on a frame, can anyone tell me if there's a normal width apart they should be ?
DevonianRedneck 86 #2 Posted March 24, 2016 It all depends on the width of the prime mover, on the ones i use at work they are adjustable on the frame for different tractors and task, for example, a three body ridger is typically set up with one body central to the tractor and the outer two bodies following the wheel marks, you can google "ferguson ridger" to get an idea of what I mean, if planning to use behind a garden tractor, I personally would only use two of the bodies one following each of the wheels, because there isn't the width in the frame to allow ridges to form else. 1 the showman reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #3 Posted March 24, 2016 Thanks for the info, i did wonder if 3 was to many behind a ride on 1 DevonianRedneck reacted to this
DevonianRedneck 86 #4 Posted March 24, 2016 no problem it may tax it grip wise if not power, but its manly because if you had the frame wide enough to make useful ridges you would end up driving on top of the crop with the wheels. Your aiming to to straddle one row whilst driving alongside the other two, so your forming one complete ridge in the centre of the tractor finishing another on the left hand side and starting one on the right hand side. 1 the showman reacted to this
Stormin 4,458 #5 Posted March 24, 2016 You've got an odd one anyway, Chris. 1 DevonianRedneck reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #6 Posted March 24, 2016 Yes Norm, that one is from a Planet jr the other two are from a Howard I think. Makes a lot of sense what Henry said, i'll put 2 on a frame and see what happens 1 DevonianRedneck reacted to this
The Fife Plooman 632 #7 Posted March 25, 2016 Hi All If you are ploughing the inside edge of the front wheel must be in line with the inside edge of the rear wheel this allows the tractor to run true.? But when you are drawing furrows or drills for potatoes The middle of the front tire must be in line with the middle of the rear wheels If the middle to middle of the front tires read 24 inches you can set your ploughs at 24 inches, ect The Gutbrod tractor has sliding rear axles so that you can move them to line up with the front ones The gutbrod tool bar comes with two ridgers If you are doing it up for show you can add three and see how it looks PS one of our shows this year the theme is potatoes when I fix mine up I will post some pics George S 1 the showman reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #8 Posted March 25, 2016 Using the ridgers sounds almost as complicated as using a plough and I'm still trying to get my head round that
the showman 4,074 #9 Posted March 25, 2016 Thanks for the info George, I'll make up a triangle frame so that i can adjust the width and make a bracket to fit a middle one if needed
the showman 4,074 #10 Posted March 25, 2016 Did a little bit today and made the mounting rod so they both have the same fixing, its just a length of 3/4 rod with a bit of flat steel welded to it 2 nigel and DevonianRedneck reacted to this
