madmatt01 107 #1 Posted May 23, 2016 Hi guys. I'm going to look at a horwool triplex 84 tomorrow evening, will be my first mini tractor and I'm looking to put some tractor tyres on it and tart up the paint for the shows. What I want to know is are they very good? I can't seem to find out much information for them . How old they are? Are there many about? Any info great fully appreciated Cheers matt 3 the showman, mowerdar and Triumph66 reacted to this

the showman 4,074 #6 Posted May 23, 2016 Kohler is a good engine, you can download a manual from the net 1 madmatt01 reacted to this
madmatt01 107 #7 Posted May 23, 2016 That's good. Iv seen a photo off one with bigger wheels, mudguards and thought it looked the part
DevonianRedneck 86 #8 Posted May 23, 2016 kohler engined triple mowers made in the 80s i think, well made and high geared, used for cutting semi rough and aprons on golf courses, simular to a national triple but more tractory in appearance.
the showman 4,074 #9 Posted May 23, 2016 Sounds like a plan, we like lots of photos

nigel 1,876 #14 Posted May 23, 2016 They are very wide that's the only problem with them

Stormin 4,458 #16 Posted May 23, 2016 With chain drive the gearing will be pretty simple to change. As to width, a plough could be offset.

madmatt01 107 #18 Posted May 24, 2016 Think the only thing it will get used for is a little trailer to ferry the family around at shows
Stormin 4,458 #19 Posted May 24, 2016 Digger James got a Horwood 84 a while back. Don't know if he's done anything with it.
Wristpin 400 #20 Posted May 24, 2016 We used to look after a couple in the 80s and they were old and horrible even then, but, in fairness most of the issues were with the cutter units and the drives to them . https://www.dropbox.com/s/4jppf2t1mhdxk33/Horwool0001.pdf?dl=
madmatt01 107 #21 Posted May 24, 2016 i look forward to all that fun! i know this needs a break master cylinder, but im hoping to fit something newer for that. also is there a way to date these tractors? engine numbers e.t.c
Wristpin 400 #22 Posted May 24, 2016 Unless you come across a Horwool label somewhere on the chassis, your best bet for dating may be with the Kohler - always assuming that it's the original that is. A Kohler expert may be able to tell you how to unpick the serial number but I have a feeling that a lot of them had the "uncoded" date of manufacture on the id plate. The copy brochure that I posted pre-dates 1978 which was when I acquired it at the liquidation sale of Godfreys of Brenchley near Tonbridge, Kent.
meadowfield 1,900 #23 Posted May 24, 2016 if you get the engine model and serial it can easily be dated by that - assuming it is the original engine
