Darmic1 447 #101 Posted February 7, 2017 I then got distracted by the freebie bought home from work this morning...... It's a Landmaster Gardenmaster 34...... Fuel tank and carb were full of water, so I took it all apart and cleaned everything, reassembled with newly made gaskets, added some fuel and found no spark? Further investigation revealed the points were AWOL!!! 1 pmackellow reacted to this
S1g 579 #102 Posted February 7, 2017 Would an aftermarket electronic ignition replace the missing points? I seem to recall a brown atom worked on a Villiers but I may have that wrong? the blue atom was definatley the one for kohlers.
Darmic1 447 #103 Posted February 8, 2017 Not sure about the electric module? However, Meetens can supply all the missing bits to put the JAP back to working condition...... Points, Condensor, Stator plate and all the missing nuts, bolts and screws, oh and a new spark plug! Not cheap though I might add! Should be here early next week...... The Meco electronic trigger works fine with Japs, BSAs and Villiers provided that they do not have the later coils incorporating an embedded condenser. Just discard the points and condenser and connect the Meco to the coil LT. I fit them as standard when refurbishing Slopers on Marquises. 1 Stormin reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #105 Posted February 8, 2017 Mine looks a little different to that one........
Darmic1 447 #106 Posted February 10, 2017 Back to the machine named in the title........ The farmers Boy ratchet springs arrived yesterday...... A perfect copy of the originals and plenty of spares too! 2 pmackellow and Alan reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #107 Posted March 10, 2017 Back on this project again now...... Jim has the gearbox and new bushes, so hopefully wont be too long before I can start putting the actual tractor back together........ In the meantime I've had to repaint the fuel tank!!! I had brush painted it about 6 to 8 weeks ago, once dry I put it indoors to cure and harden thoroughly in the airing cupboard. My paint supplier sells a 1K clear lacquer which is fuel resistant and I planned to lightly dust the clear over the brushed fuel tank to prevent fuel spill damage...... However when I applied the 1st light coat everything was fine, I left it 15-20 minutes and started to put a 2nd light coat and there was a bit of a reaction! The green blistered and peeled like latex, leaving the etch primer undamaged and exposed!!! So...... I had to start again, rather than risk problems again, I bought a can of 2K BS282 Forest Green. At least this is fuel resistant as it is! And there was enough in 1 can to paint several coats on 2 fuel tanks (1 spare) the air shroud inside and out, the tank brackets, the engine brackets, back plate and chain cover both sides and the handlebar swivel mount! Here's some pictures of the Villiers MK12 engine with air shroud and fuel tank all refitted....... 4 Stormin, Alan, pmackellow and 1 other reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #108 Posted March 13, 2017 Yet more painting! Seems like a never ending task, with all the attachments etc........ At least there's only the gearbox left to do once I get it back from having new bronze bushes fitted! 2 pmackellow and Stormin reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #109 Posted March 25, 2017 Have reassembled the handlebars, fitted the new grips and throttle cable..... 2 Stormin and pmackellow reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #110 Posted March 25, 2017 Put the decals from Titch on the fuel tank today, then ran the engine for the 1st time properly. Had it running for about 1/2 hour, will need a tune up once refitted to the gearbox and the throttle cable is refitted, but it runs well! 3 Stormin, pmackellow and Alan reacted to this

Darmic1 447 #113 Posted March 31, 2017 Finally got the last of the bits back from the shot blasters, It's taken a while, but he was soon forgiven when I had to climb over several landrover chassis to get to my bits!! ! Anyways...... More metal means more painting! The big 20" ploughing wheels and the smaller 8" wheels have had 2 coats of the brush on and been left to dry....... 3 pmackellow, S1g and Alan reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #114 Posted March 31, 2017 The 8" wheels had been drying for 3 days, so today I took them along with the new tyres to become reunited into one unit....... New boots fitted! 4 Alan, S1g, Stormin and 1 other reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #115 Posted March 31, 2017 Also reassembled the big ploughing wheels....... These are flipping heavy cast lumps! The cleats are bolted on in a different pattern on each wheel. The wheel which runs on the unploughed ground has alternating cleats, in, out, in, out etc. The other wheel which runs the bottom of the furrow has the cleats all pointing on the same side, to prevent the edge of the furrow being torn up. Managed to refit the ratchets and chain drive sprockets too...... 3 S1g, Alan and Stormin reacted to this

Darmic1 447 #119 Posted April 1, 2017 I noticed I had made a small mistake with the cleats on this wheel..... Hence why I didn't post the picture!!! Can you tell what it is?????
Darmic1 447 #120 Posted April 1, 2017 Problem rectified today, and the 2 wheels together showing the different pattern...... 2 Stormin and Alan reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #121 Posted September 14, 2017 Not really made much progress with this as I was waiting for the gearbox to have new bushes and a new shaft made. Am pleased to say its all back and has my full attention to get it finished and ready for Tractor World at Newbury...... The new bigger tyres mean the engine requires lifting to give clearance. To enable the lift I had to chain drill and enlarge some holes in the cast backplate. Hopefully, this will be the only modification required? Here's the backplate being modified....... The gearbox case being primed and painted....... 2 Alan and Stormin reacted to this
Darmic1 447 #122 Posted September 15, 2017 Todays little job was to reassemble the gearbox....... The sprockets, shafts and chains went back where they should be and it all works nicely! 4 Stormin, Anglo Traction, Alan and 1 other reacted to this
