CNew reacted to factory in Tiny Tiger 300 and Drillgine - Info/Parts Request
The original baseplate is indeed aluminium, I had to make a base for my Tiny Tiger model 400 as it was also missing (they often are), one of the stalls at an engine show had an off-cut of stainless steel in the correct thickness at a price I couldn't refuse, aluminium would have been much easier to work with though.

I also made the little spacers that fit the screws between the base tank from paxolin rod.

The two screws are #10-32 with a slotted mushroom head, I had to order way too many to get the right size over here in the UK.
I never did found a source for the Acorn Pal-nut though, I believe the correct part is Palnut AC 1032 if you can find any.

One last thing to think about when making the new baseplate, I would advise not to drill the holes for the feet to the final size until you've bought some, again I've not found any the same as the originals.

CNew reacted to DustyB in flywheel key - easy to make
I sheared my flywheel key on my Tiny Tiger a couple of days ago when the flywheel came loose. No damage done since it just slipped on the shaft and quit running. Anyway I found these Hillman keys, steel not aluminum, at the local farm store. The size is right except the thickness. Ten minutes under my thumb on a sharpening stone fixed that, reducing from 2mm thick to 1.5mm. A pack of three was around $2.50.

They can also be made using a saw & file from the correct thickness of aluminium sheet, or using a lathe & filing the height to match the original (or that custom sized one I had to make).

I need the red shroud with the recoil intact.
Mine had the spring missing.  I tried to install a spring from a weed wacker and that little tab that holds the end To the shroud broke.

CNew reacted to K-TRON in 60 year old Comet C-SAW still running strong
My Comet C-SAW has turned 60 years of age, and I thought that there would be no better present for it than to finally install the new diaphragm gasket I picked up from Wallfish a year and a half ago in Worcester. The old diaphragm was hard and brittle and simply beyond use. I was able to limp it along these last few months by removing it, soaking it in light machine oil, and reinstalling it wet. With the new diaphragm installed the little O&R started up and ran just perfectly. You can hear the little air vane governor working as it powers its way through some wood I had laying about.

Wow, an O&R on a multiuse demo saw. That is a new one for me. I wonder how well that worked out. I bet tile contractors loved them. It looks like it powers a ~ 7 or 8 inch grinder wheel. I have a much larger demo saw built by Racine for cutting railroad rail. The 10.5hp West Bend 820 engine turns whatever metal you put in front of the 16 inch abrasive wheel into powder. I would actually love to find one of these mini demo-saws. Its just too cute!

That is quite a little hedge trimmer. I wonder if someone hit a chain link fence or something hard and steel with the trimmer head, in turn breaking the connecting rod. It looks like the damage occured while it was running, and not just a sawing operation to separate the parts. Very cool project. I have been trying to find a Little Wonder with an O&R for the longest time.

I think you guys are awesome! I love how you rebuild! These days everything is disposable and not many could fix anything if if it was serviceable. I grew up in awe of people like you and my dad. When I grew up I wanted to fix things just like he could. I have gravitated toward those that could, and tried to learn as much as I could and now, for a girl, I’m pretty handy. Sometimes it’s lonely in a world full of people that look at you sideways because you want to repair an item instead of buying a replacement. Trouble is the really don’t make them like they used to. You can’t buy yesterday’s quality anymore. But this you know. I just wanted to let you know I think this site is pretty cool and filled with awesome folk. Thanks for being you and thanks for being here.

CNew got a reaction from JUST O&R in Orline Cutoff saw
I’ll add some more photos later but I’m now one with O&R... while working on the cutoff saw I was trying to remove a set screw/bolt with quite a bit of force. The slotted head snapped and the screwdriver skewered my hand between my thumb and pointer finger. I ended up at the ER yesterday and when they did x-rays they saw a piece of shrapnel. Apparently half of the screw head that snapped off went with the screwdriver blade and got lodged deep in my hand. I go in for surgery tomorrow morning for them to try to fish it out. You can see in this first photo the half of the screw that chipped off.

Well a couple of days ago I got all the old paint stripped off the shroud using Dumont Peel Away 6. I got it primer yesterday and today I painted the Ace Hardware Banner Red to it. It's really glossy, even better in person. I might clearcoat it,but not sure. I need to see if a local hardware has the small pull starter rope and then put the pull starter back together. Probably going to be fun and then on to putting the new decals on.I'd like to find or make a soup can type fuel tank for it .If all else fails I could get a round r/c airplane fuel tank,if I can find one big enough. I may even try starting it after all is done.
