Yes seen sets fetch silly money. This set was relisted due to a time waster who never picked them up. He was way up north & made no contact!
I got them for £200 less than the 1st time they were sold I was happy with what I payed & got some spares also
Cant wait to try them out. Previous owner used them to cut an air strip & towed them with his car
-
I have been after a set of Ransomes Junior Gangs for a while now.
Looking on that auction site, I found these not far from me Put a bid on & won thinking they were going to go for more than what I wanted to pay. Picked them up last night, ajusted the cylinders etc & delivered them to our field ready for use As the bolens 1886 is sick, I am going to get the HT20 out this week & sort & give it some work I am please with the condition of the gangs so should last a few more years

Well, still having problems with the engine but have now worked out whats wrong with help from a Kohler Expert
Even though it fires up well. Some issues with the carb were sorted & now runs for a bit longer
The problem is serious lack of compression Done a leak down test & it leaks like a sieve.
So engine is coming back out for a birthday, fitment of new rings & valves etc
Keep you posted

I have a large cylinder grinder sat at the rear of the work shop.
Atterton & Ellis I think is the make
Approx 7ft long & very heavy
3 phase. Never used it or had it running
Spin grind cylinders only
Any body interested before it goes up for auction??
Put some pics up this week
-
Most of the stuff is for MK25c 2 stroke from my allen scythe days
Piles of carbs etc, mag bits etc. Interchangeable with most me thinks
Some stuff for MK15 4 stroke etc. Block for a MK20 4 stroke
Various other parts inc throttle levers etc
Give me a few days to get it all back home from the work shop as every time I look at it all I find something else!!
-
I am going to get shot of all my villiers engine parts very soon.
Anybody interested in a job lot before they go up for auction??
-
Someone has payed good money for your engine.
-
It gets treated like a lawn
-
Heres my sweep off!!
Got the lawn cut with the 1886 which is still playing up when it gets hot!!
Got it going again & put a PROPER Sweeper on an SCH 40 inch job
-
Just you wait till I get my rig going again
This will be turf wars
Your lawn looks very tidy Ian
-
Thanks for the info Doug.
I did grind in the valves & set the clearance when I rebuilt the engine according to the manual. But worth checking again now its run in
I made a good carb up from 2 units with all good parts. My money is on the settings at the min, but maybe bit of both causing the problem
-
I did also think of the coil, I wipped the plugs out when it stops & its still sparking well. I do have a spare coil which I can try.
Have a kohler manual for the engine which says how to set the carb up. Looked at it again today & on another page says something else. I think shes running on the hot side. Will have to have another look in the week.
-
Now that got you looking!!!
Now the Bolens 1886 is running, I have got the deck on & apart from a few small probs it works well.
Its a beast of a mower & good fun to drive. One thing it does do, is when its run for approx 40 mins it cuts out . Let it cool for 15mins, off I go again. Its got a good spark now its got a new condensor & ajusted the points. I am sure its carb ajustment as if I turn it off it wont start from hot.
From cold it starts well.
Been mowing the lawn today Just after I took these pics, it cut out!!
-
I am in Pulborough, so very local to you!!
-
