HeadExam got a reaction from meadowfield in Bolens 1556
I pick up the old girl Saturday morning 4 hour drive but at 1000.00 US for the tractor, deck, tiller snow blower, and blade I think I got away cheap. They only made the 1556 one year and it fits into my collection. I sold one of my Simplicity's to fund this acquisition, but I wanted an older Simplicity anyway

The steering wheel is the quickest way to tell. The 1973 and older Bolens wheel is a 3 spoke flat all the way to the center, the 1976 and up have a removable tall center cone. Without hydraulic or electric how do you lift any implements? lol, I don't have a "armstrong" lift.

I would let him sweat it out a bit to see if his greed is cured!

You need my tractors autographs, they do all the work. Except for the Bolens I haven't restored any of them. I am blessed with having them, but the real tribute goes to those that made them and those that kept them up. I have 17 now and many, many implements, I hope this collection can grow, stay intact and out live me.

OB you have been a wealth of information and a solid guy. I meant no disrespect to you about your post, and I know you weren't doing what others sometimes do on other sites. Thanks so much!

Sonny's is out of business and has been for a couple of years.
That's two guys working out of a 'Garage in a Box' in their back yard and trying to capitalize on what's left of Sonny's name.
They just ripped off what was on the old Sonny's site
The best source on the internet for Bolens, and other GT manuals as well, would be the GTTalk forums.
They have 2201 files related to all of the various Lawn and Garden tractor equipment manufacturers, 567 of which are related to Bolens. They include Operators and Parts manuals for tractors and implements, Service Bulletins, advertising brochures, etc.

HeadExam reacted to Ian in Project "Why Not"
Thingy works for me
Same to you Norm
Thanks mate.. Practice is by far the best way to get better at welding.. I'm getting there
Despite being busy with Why Not for the past couple of day's I've not a great deal to show for it..
Have a better photo of the steering column and the UJ's.
A new more sporty steering wheel has been fitted.. Don't worry, the badge in the center will be going and replaced with something more in keeping
What has been taking a lot of time was cleaning all the rust and old paint off the rear wheels so I could fit the new bigger tyres.. I think it's one of those jobs we all hate, but it's worth the effort
I've no idea what this came from, Nigel had had it for many years.. But it does make a great gear shift lever.. Just got to work out how/where to mount it and figure out a linkage..

Great piece of work, that reminds me I need to get some scrap and start practicing on my welding technique, you have that bead "thingy" going.

That's a pity; I was looking forward to have my Bolens fix!
There are people like that everywhere I am afraid.

Nope, the guy didn't call me or answer his phone. I looked at my records, I sold this guy two Bolens QT17 rollers (no engines) two years ago this April, two days later I went to his house and made a DEAL with him to buy his old H14 for 475 ( he now says it was 500, I said no problem), he has not only avoided me, but avoided a friend of mine I sent to try to buy the tractor for me, no luck. The guy is not going to sell me or anyone else the tractor or anything else, even after we had a deal. Here is where I usually go into a parenting/ancestry discussion, not going to go there. The sad part is that the guy has had health issues for years and trying to maintain several hundred acres, plus several acres of auction junk has taken a toll on his health. He does not seem to realize that he cannot take it with him nor that much of what he has/had could be saved if it was sold to people that wouldn't let it deteriorate just for the pride of ownership. We have lots like him around here, those that don't take care of new or old equipment because they never mentally developed into complete and whole human beings. I'm not trying to be judgmental, just observations of Jung, Alder, Erickson, and Allport

HeadExam reacted to the showman in What's in a Name?
I was featured in a national tractor magazine and it was titled The Wheelhorse Showman, so I kept "the showman as my user name
