The drive shaft and clutch on the Bolens 900 were rebuilt and refitted but then we hit a big problem.

Already out of time, we continued to search for the solution

Finally got it finished today. It's probably take something like 5hrs total.

Worst bit was the patch in the first photo'. With a straightedge across you could see daylight. The second photo' is how it looks now.

I decided to temporary fit the head just to keep things together, till I get the parts I need. That is when I found another PO's bodge. One of the head bolt holes by the exhaust valve, has been tapped out the 3/8th UNC. Plus the bolt used is slightly longer with a longer shank. Not much I can do about the hole, but the bolt I will cut down to the length of the others and run a die down the shank, to get the same amount of thread.

I get any parts from Meetens, Preston, Lancs. I've found them very good and help full.

Initially we said we would focus on the engine of the Bolens 900 because we could not understand what was stopping the clutch from working. The aim being that a working engine would help diagnose the clutch issues.

We now have a better idea of the clutch issues so we have changed direction and are now investigating the clutch.

A quck update on the Bolens 900. This is going to be an interesting project as it looks like a previous owner has done some creative and mainly unhelpful repairs in the past

We finished the last job on the G14 ready to try running it. It took ages for the new belts to arrive so to fit them we had to dismantle some parts again.

Dad made sure he was well hidden this time

Progress is still very slow due to other commitments and may be even slower for a while as my cameraman now has flu. We have the clutch and driveshaft out of the tractor and found the problem, details in the latest video

Decided to give the fleet a service yesterday. Engine oil on all except the C-125. That was done after the rebuild. So C-81, The Black Horse and Sears/Roper all got new blood. The trans were drained by jacking up the front and a 3" block under the RH rear wheel. I only did the C-81 and C-125. The oil in the other two was done last year and still clean.

I did find both RH rear tyres on the C-81 and C-125 had no air in. C-81 possibly not sealing and the C-125 has a split valve. They'll be sorted next week.

Today was grease day. Every grease nipple I could find got done. Much to my surprise the Sears/Roper had no grease nipples in the axle spindles. Holes yes. Nipples no. Also no way to grease the axle pivot. OK! I'll do something about that.

Jack up the front and lower on to axle stands. Keep the H&S bods happy. Removed the track rods from the spindles and spindles complete with wheels. Why make work. Then the axle itself after removing the front hitch. With that on you couldn't remove the pivot bolt.

Drilled out the holes for the nipples and re-threaded to take the larger nipples I had. The nipples protruded into the spindle tube, so thin washers were used to pack them out.

Next the pivot bolt. This was over long so lost a1/4" then into the lathe to have a grease hole drilled up the centre.

Then a hole drilled through the bolt shank halfway along. Finally the end threaded to take a grease nipple.

    All back together and greased.
