  1. isn't it fun playing in the snow? i spent my afternoon the same way, clearing all the sidewalks in the village atleast an hour of play time
  2. they should've turned the microwave on, natural selection at its best
  3. im looking for a decent condition cross slide screw as mine is a bit worn(the acme thread looks like standard allthread/threaded rod) and maybe the original coolant pump if its there. those change gears and drawbar sound good too tho
  4. nice looking lathe so far, i also like the car lift are you making one complete lathe out of the two? if so i might be interested in some parts
  5. also a little update, this is what the lathe looks like now and has looked like for about a month or so, getting my car ready for MOT and not passing it after a bunch of work has meant not a lot has been done on the lathe
  6. Welcome aboard Gus, got any photo's of that lathe of yours? we really like pictures around here as for taking the backgear out i think all of this should be taken either off or out the grubscrew you allready removed than take this handle off by tapping out the little pin, i got it to slide of with some carefull hammer and chisel work and then the locking mechanism, haven't put it back on mine yet but this is where it goes, should screw right out then i believe you have to tap the shaft out from the handle side, if you have acces to a hydraulic press id suggest taking the headstock off. this can be done by loosening these two lockdowns, square socket drive should fit this is the one at the back of the machine and you can just make out the one below the chuck good luck
  7. ooh i like seeing the solo motorhacke in the 8th pic, i had one of those
  8. @pmackellow attention please
  9. should be as close to the plow as possible, to far forward as it sits now
  10. well, i couldn't wait, so i done a dry fit of the painted parts. looks pretty if you'd ask me
  11. time for a small update methinks, picture time found some numbers on the back of the base, d 21. no idea what these numbers mean but they've been painted over once before and put back on in a slightly different location also found some stamped numbers in one of the scraped surfaces. could this mean this is the thirteenth lathe build? mostly bare metal now, time for some red oxide now sporting a nice coat of RAL 3011 tadaaa! first coat of paint on the outside. collour/collor code is RAL 7005 thats all the pics for now. i did hot pressure wash the ways and some of the other big bits as they were pretty greasy and it also took most of the non original paint off. and before you ask yes i did dry and oil all the machined surfaces after washing it
  12. i got mine from a toro dealer, packet of two, not all that expensive
  13. are there different versions for hydro's and manual transmissions? i thought they were all the same? anyway have a look on craigslist or on redsquare classifieds. they go from 50 to 100 bucks. good luck
  14. todays progress are those blueish marks prussian blue left over from scraping it level?
  15. Ah there, i did look over it. Thanks wristpin Just ordered a manual
  16. todays progress in picture form parts are cleaning up pretty nice if you'd ask me. degreaser and some 400 grit wet 'n dry sandpaper does a good job of making the metal visible again its a wise desission to take it all apart, this greasy sawdust is everywhere on the machine the headstock was also taken off to get to the feed clutch thingy, someone was a little rough on the handle and snapped a pin in half the machine as it stands now, the ways also cleaned up pretty nice with some 400grit and degreaser
  17. i have been there, cant find anything on manuals tho, might be looking over it of course
  18. finally the lathe is home, and allready started cleaning it i guess it was sold by this guy also found a name on a dirty chuck, anyone know if these are any good? here is said dirty chuck, ready for a degreaser bath tomorrow this will also be degreased, dont want a schticky compound slide( thats what its caller right?) and the last picture for today, starting to look somewhat presentable also if anyone has any idea where to find a manual and parts/accesoiries for one of these lathes let me know please
  19. i've come across these people in oncoming lanes when driving big tractors, mostly the bmw's that steer towards the tractor to make you move over. they most often quickly rethink their actions when i do the same after they did it
  20. im with wristpin on it being a villiers
  21. i'd love to see some kind of how to on the powdercoating, also nice job on the westwood
  22. i'd love to have a go at it, but i have enough projects for now. also that lathe looks really really familiar, i've seen one like that before somewhere
  23. one of the arguments of not doing that is eventually pushing the outer seals out with grease.
