That colour should make you easy to find you at Rural Past times Norm
That's £50 well spent I say
-
Extend it anyway, you can never have enough space
-
A rather nice collection you have Paul, but it may be about time you extended shed
-
Your going to have in in that Charlie, don't forget to video it
-
Evening chaps, not much to report.
A few parcels arrived today, one containing brake adjusters and the other brake shoes..
Fitted.. Though I think whoever designed drum brakes needs a good talking to.. Horrible things to put together!
The inside of the drums got a de-glaze as well for good measure. The good new is the rear brakes now work rather well.... I've not looked at the front brakes yet as I may well have to move both master cylinders to fit some steering in!
Fit some steering in??? Well, yes.. The other parcel that arrived today was this small steering rack from a Aixam 751/500 micro car.
With a bit of narrowing of the outer arms it will fit between the front wheels nicely, but the only way to connect it to the steering wheel is run the column down the right side of the engine which should be interesting with brake gubbins and pedals in the way..
Don't worry Mark, she will be drivable for your visit next Monday
-
Hi Weapea, have you checked under the engine shroud for any grass clippings that may of found their way under the shroud? If the engine cooling fins get clogged up it would make the engine run very hot..
It's worth a look.
-
What a great use of spare time.. Hat's off to you Alain
-
That's a great find Philip, I've always fancied a cutter bar for my WH.. One day as they say
-
Thanks Alan, no need for parachute... I have an anchor and a long length of bungee rope
Thanks James.
A Why Not status update...
The good news I've fitted a rev counter and worked out how to wire in the temp gauge.
The bad news is... The brakes are rubbish.
The steering is a bit heavy, does not self center, does not have enough lock and is not enough turns from lock to lock..
The throttle pedal is at a painful angle for my ankles, as is the brake pedal.
The throttle pedal needs better return springs..
When braking it's hard not to hit the throttle at the same time!
So she needs a few tweaks..
The rear brakes will be sorted by fitting new shoes (I've ordered the right ones this time) and new adjusters both of which have been ordered..
The front brakes will be sorted by moving the master cylinder up a bit.
Sorting the throttle pedal problems just involves a little cutting and welding.
The steering problems will be a bit more interesting to solve..
The gearing in the 90 degree angle drive box thingy isn't quite 1:1 but it's close, this means the steering wheel does not turn much lock to lock..
I did think about a Land Rover steering box which is small enough to fit in the available space... Until I saw the price of them!!
So I have bought a small steering rack advertised as being for micro cars/kit cars... It only measures 39 inches end to end, as WN is 44 inches wide it should fit in with only minor tweaks..

Your be laughing manically after driving her mate. That of kissing the ground where your so glad to get off WN
we shall have to have a chat about the decals.
Strangely enough I wasn't too keen on how the filters sat when WN was on the bench, now she is off the filters look right.
Hi Doug, I found driving my GT afterwards was quite relaxing.. Slow enough to have time to think
No Nitrous, that would just be daft.. Maybe a turbo though
Thanks mate, your welcome to have a drive if you feel brave enough.
Thanks Max... I think Bendy would win on traction but Wn would win at showering Mark with mud etc
-
Thanks Iain.
Thanks Koen, not tried any burnouts yet.... I think Nigel was saying something like "get it on a long straight and it will just go and go"
And madder
Thanks Norm, rubber undies might be a safer bet
Thanks Ewan, happy you like it.
-
Thanks Mark, yep it's about that decal thinking time.. It's about time you headed down too
We have take off!! I did wonder why the steering went everywhere, I was going a bit to fast to notice I was almost airborne
She does indeed.
Thanks Ewan
Ta muchly Charlie
I will try not to break her Norm
And now the moment you have all been waiting for.. That's me included... Yest it's test drive video time
-
Thank Tom, you don't have long to wait for the test drive vid, it will be along shortly
Say what ever you want mate
Thanks James, the test drive vid is almost here.
I agree
Thanks Andrew, yeah she does sit just right..

That sounds a bit drastic to me Norm
Well, I didn't quite make the test drive deadline today, but getting very close..
Due to a measuring problem I had to make another sleeve to join the 2 parts of the prop shaft together... For once I can say the measuring cock up wasn't down to me but measuring calipers.. Nigel will vouch for that as well!
Getting the engine running again was fun.. The spark at the plugs which was there yesterday had vanished today!!
After lot's of searching and ing I traced the problem down to the run/stop switch which had decided that the run position just wasn't an option any more!
So sorting those two problems kinda killed any chance of a test drive today But there's always tomorrow
The amended "To do" list..
Find out why the fuel tap is leaking..
Fill diff with oil.
Finish the wiring, it's about 90% done.
Finish the prop shaft.. About 50% 90% done. It just needs welding and fitting.
Bleed the brakes again to get the last of the air out.
Warm the engine up and change the oil.
Set the front end up.
Get WN off the bench..
Go for a test drive
With WN off the bench it only seemed fair that I rolled her outside for a few photos..
For me... This one really hits the spot
-
Those Desperados do go down rather well and fast
-
It's nothing a large tin of IH red paint wouldn't solve
-
That's great progress Tom, it would be great to see it at Rural Pastimes
-
Thanks Iain, if I do the update from A&E then you know something has gone wrong
So if I don't put fuel in all will be ok?
Getting her off the bench shouldn't be too much of a problem, one end at a time carefully
-
So when are you going to start entering Bendy in Tractor pulling comps Mark?
-
The IH? third down will do me nicely
-
That's a great find Paul, should you ever decide to reseed your lawn then it won't take long with that
-
It would be a shame to sell it now summer is here!
-
That's a good start to your new place George, I wonder what else you will find in the weeds.
