Mine was like that Darren and i did exactly what you've done and left it as is.
it works really well and the more you use it the better it gets, I always give mine a smear with grease after ive used it

Found a couple of photos of the first Wheehorse i had ( and still got ) its a 1969 Commando 7 bought for £50 on the 17th of March 2003.
