CUBMAD 11 #1 Posted November 20, 2014 Hi everyone, I’m new to My Old Machine having recently acquired a Cub Cadet 1772 barn find. Please see the attached photos. The Cub was imported to the UK from the USA in the 90s and has remained unused for more than 10 years. Surprisingly, after I put a battery on it, cleaned the fuel system/added fresh diesel and check the oil/coolant it started first time! a testimony to the quality of build. I plan to complete a full nut and bolt restoration to bring it back to factory release condition, with additional items if possible. I have loads of questions that other members may be able to help me with if able. It has a rear PTO running at 2000ish RPM, so can I run any implements, if so what do I need (ie clutch) and what can I attach? I'd like to know if its possible to fit - a 3 point hitch? if so what do I need? a front loader, if so what do I need? a backhoe, if so what do I need? I’ve carried-out an initial inspection and need the following items - Bonnet plastic badge (Cud Cadet) Replacement seat (tin looks good) A few of the handle covers are missing so will need replacements Would the importation of second hand or used parts be subject to taxes? Sorry for all the questions but hopefully someone you can point me in the right direction. Kind regards Ian 3 pmackellow, Ian and Triumph66 reacted to this

pmackellow 2,738 #10 Posted November 20, 2014 That well known auction website is a good place to find Cub Cadet parts, just make sure that you read all the costs regarding import duty, it applies on some bits but not others it seems...
Wristpin 400 #11 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Can't match the 1772 as it was either not a officially imported to the UK or was imported with a different model number - an MTD habit! These may help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6jgcz3nwh1qzriw/Cub%20PTO%20and%203%20point%20lift0001.pdf?dl=0 Edited November 20, 2014 by Wristpin
Ian 2,417 #12 Posted November 20, 2014 Hi Ian, welcome to MOM, it's good to have you aboard... That's quite a machine you have there, PTO, independent rear brakes and power steering by the looks of your photo's If your handy with fabrication anything can be fitted.. A front loader and back hoe are on my "must build one day" list, but I did make a 3 point for my Wheel Horse GT-14+2 it might give you a few ideas http://myoldmachine.com/topic/433-wheel-horse-gt-142/?hl=%2Bthree+%2Bpoint+%2Blinkage#entry4843
slf-uk 914 #13 Posted November 21, 2014 Hi Ian, Welcome to the forum. That is a really interesting machine you have. I look forward to following your renovation. It is going to get confusing with all these Ian's, but strangely I am still the only Iain with the name spelt correctly Best wishes Iain
CUBMAD 11 #14 Posted December 14, 2014 I've now stripped the cub down, started on prepping the panels for paint, fabricating the snowplough for fitting and found a crack in the alloy transmission bracket - oh hum! 3 Triumph66, Ian and slf-uk reacted to this
Triumph66 1,256 #15 Posted December 14, 2014 You're making good progress there. BTW, what's the sports car? Is it a Sunbeam Alpine?
meadowfield 1,900 #16 Posted December 14, 2014 I didn't realise it was that complicated... That's a lot of engine, wires and pipes!
Ian 2,417 #17 Posted December 14, 2014 Wow.. I didn't realize there was so much engine under the bonnet!! That's quite a machine you have there Ian

CUBMAD 11 #19 Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks guys, its a Kubota 17hp 3 cylinder oil burner. Loads of pulling power with independent sided breaking and rear and front PTO. Triumph66 - the Sports car in the background is a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger (5.0ltr, V8, LSD, 300+bhp). It was previously a sprint/hill racer (0-62 in about 4 and a 1/2 seconds). It had a fair bit of success competing in the Isle of Mann events during the 80s/90S. I've been refurbishing it over the past 2-3 years and would say its a good 8/9 out of 10. Its a lot of fun and fairly useable if a tinge tough on the clutch leg, very hard suspension, sticks like glue round corners and a true a Subaru beater! 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
CUBMAD 11 #20 Posted December 15, 2014 there's a few more photos of the Tiger. 1 Triumph66 reacted to this

Triumph66 1,256 #22 Posted December 15, 2014 A great looking car and at least I got the Sunbeam right! It's a shame Rootes couldn't produce more of the Tigers and Alpines.

ranger 373 #24 Posted December 15, 2014 I think when Chrysler took over they weren't keen on the Ford engine in the Tiger.
