the showman 4,074 #1 Posted April 9, 2015 A while ago i got a Wheehorse in that had been standing for a long time, after cleaning the points and fuel system i got it to fire up. The bit that frightened me was when i opened up the throttle the rpm went through the roof, there was a big cloud of crap from the cowling and a load of sparks from the exhaust, after it settled back down it ran as sweet as a nut except the governor wasn't working. I didn't know weather to look for another engine or cut my grass at 50 mph
the showman 4,074 #2 Posted April 9, 2015 Here's a couple of photos, its a C series with a 12 hp
the showman 4,074 #3 Posted April 9, 2015 When i was up at Ian's helping him move, he had a spare engine sat in his shed so a deal was struck and I brought it home. Its been sat on my garage floor ever since so today I thought it was time i did something with it. Its a 12 hp pull start, so just swop a few bits over, ha ha . You'll notice I swapped the pulley and pto clutch first to see if the crank was the same 1 diggerjames reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #4 Posted April 9, 2015 Next was the starter and flywheel, after a fight with the flywheels i found the backplates were different, so off they came and luckily i had some gaskits, this is where it all went pear shaped
the showman 4,074 #5 Posted April 9, 2015 Her in doors came in the workshop and wanted a ton of 10mm shingle for the garden so off we went, so progress on the engine was slow as i only managed to do bits in between the barrow fulls of shingle and cups of tea So at the end of the day this is where I'm at, see what interruptions i get tomorrow
Chris 642 #6 Posted April 9, 2015 I got a 12hp engine sat in the workshop looking for a home Chris No carb/ fuel pump or compression
the showman 4,074 #7 Posted April 9, 2015 Now you tell me, I could be interested in yours, i pulled the sump off mine and it seems to have a lot of play from the fibre governor gear wheel, i have never had one of these apart but it looks a mega job to change it. It looks like everything has to come out before you can get at it
Ian 2,417 #8 Posted April 9, 2015 Looks like your most of the way there with the engine Chris, I'm glad the problems was with the gravel and not the gold engine 1 diggerjames reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #9 Posted April 9, 2015 I think the biggest problem was the weather, if it had been raining Pam would have stayed indoors 1 nigel reacted to this
the showman 4,074 #10 Posted April 10, 2015 Done a bit more today, i dont know why but i looked underneath the sump this morning and guess what no threaded holes so something else to swap over, glad i had a gaskit, next was the exhaust, it had a smaller pipe bolted to the block and of course they wouldn't undo then out with my big tap and a new piece of pipe. Might get it bolted in the tractor tomorrow 3 Triumph66, slf-uk and nigel reacted to this
