expeatfarmer 591 #1 Posted November 19, 2015 For a number of years my elder son has used a power file for all sorts of clean up jobs and swears by how useful it is, this year he bought me one for my birthday and now I wish I had had one years ago it really is the most useful tool particularly when cleaning up and restoring parts. Once you get used to it you can refresh even the smallest delicate parts, clean crud out of awkward corners, tidy up welds, or get brutal and use it for removing large amounts of material. Also ideal for sharpening SWMO's secateurs and garden shears for brownie points. If you have not got one I would definitely write Santa a note!

expeatfarmer 591 #5 Posted November 20, 2015 Screwfix and most DIY stores have them. Mine is a Black and Decker I think they cost about £35 may be less. There are also air drive versions.

Stormin 4,458 #7 Posted November 20, 2015 I think hand belt sander is the correct description. Black and Decker around £50. Machine Mart and Screwfix around £60. Can't see any of my lot buying me one.

Wristpin 400 #12 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Keep an eye on Aldi and Lidle . They both have them from time to time - reasonable quality and a decent warranty. Edit. Just been told that Aldi have them at £19.99! Edited November 20, 2015 by Wristpin

meadowfield 1,900 #14 Posted November 21, 2015 When my last one broke I really panicked, it was about the first power tool plugged in when we moved house. Awesome for cleaning tubing and polishing welds
