Last update before holiday and the GDSF...

Some more painting, just as I pressed the trigger on the spray gun the heavens opened

Painted the front hubs, there's some work to do though as one is really badly chewed up, the axle definitely needs a new keyway cutting. I thing that's easier than trying to weld it up!

Just a thought on the key way Mark, do you remember when I found the knackered key way on the GT's hydro pump and I started making a "key" that would fit out of brass stuff so I could stick it in the key way and weld around it?

Would that work on your axle?

Got through a lot this weekend...

Cleaned up the front hubs and beefed them up, along with some painting.

Looking better with some red on!

One of the hubs and axle in pretty chewed up, 1/4" slot drill on order to cut a new keyway.

Today's update...

The keyway in the axle was shot, the end of the hub shot too. The end to middle was ok and useable but needed a longer key to replace the small woodruff key.

So I ordered a 1/4" end mill and used the lathe to cut a new one.

Firstly making sure the height was spot on by marking the centre of the axle, this needs shims in order to get the correct centre. The final score line can just be seen.

Then running the mill through in small passes to cut an 3 inch keyway.

Once the full cut was done here's a half together shot showing the hub, fresh key steel and axle.

I managed to get the gearbox and chassis cleaned and painted :D

The remote gear linkages are almost there, not a lot of room for both and the steering box.

Here's the two halves on different benches just waiting to come together.

Well big progress today :D

Bendy is back to a rolling chassis... I fit the remaining oil seats in the front transmission, ordered some more woodruff keys and started the reassembly process. Lots of new nuts and bolts, its a shame to fit rusty ones back in especially when you can see them..... well I did cheat reusing the old ones for the transmission and the wheel bolts, 7/16 unf are hard to come by and not so cheap. I'm going to buy some zinc and have a go at electroplating them.

Also got the remote shift  working the forward reverse, just the high low lever to fit.

Thanks for the kind words chaps!

Another full day and not a massive amount to show, remote gear linkages are done. Managed to strip and spray the hood stand. Just the hood to paint now and another few coats on the fender.

Thanks for the kind words guys,

I've made progress but am disappointed it hasn't started or driven...

I was optimistic and naive that it would just come together today and be driveable, however a few things have

stopped me....

1. I bought the engine unseen, upon sitting it on the frame and lifting the dipstick there's no end on it. Did it

snap and fall in the bottom?
2. The engine overhangs the frame and will need a small mod - I already knew this
3. My throttle and choke cables haven't arrived.
4. Theres no fuel pump!

So I've got the clutch and brake linkages sorted. It went together really nicely with very little modification.

Just a new link arm to pull the brake band.

IMG_3208_zpsc1c30a4f.jpg

On the reverse side I repurposed the clutch idler arm, but added a Land Rover Discovery cambelt

tensioner as a reverse idler. :D

IMG_3206_zps73c7c8fa.jpg

Further downsides, the belt arrived but is too long... my engine pulley really needs to be a taperlock as it's from a

briggs and was held on by a bolt. The magnum doesn't have a thread in the drive end.

So it's a reasonable shopping list this week:

Battery
Seat
Taperlock bush and pulley
Longer belt
Fuel bung and tap for tank
Fuel pump
Starter switch
Solenoid
