3 pointsThanks for the info, Richard. Appreciate it. Well it's all in bits now. Had a fight with two of the bolts holding one of the spindle housing. Heads were very corroded and sockets/spanners would not grip. After attacking one with grinder and chisel, it came out. The second one I needed to grind the head off. The bit that stayed in the housing is putting up a fight. Tried to drill it out using a pistol drill. Without success. I think a trip to the farm needed and try some heat. Other wise it's a replacement housing. One of the plastic rear rollers is missing so a replacement for that needs to be found/made. Also the two wheels for the rear height adjustment need replacing. One is more tyre than wheel. The deck shell isn't so bad. Underneath looks worse than it is. Repairs are needed to the left hand side and to the top. I'm going to see if I can get everything grit blasted before I do anything else. So that's it for now.

3 pointsThe 8" wheels had been drying for 3 days, so today I took them along with the new tyres to become reunited into one unit....... New boots fitted!
-
2 pointsAlso reassembled the big ploughing wheels....... These are flipping heavy cast lumps! The cleats are bolted on in a different pattern on each wheel. The wheel which runs on the unploughed ground has alternating cleats, in, out, in, out etc. The other wheel which runs the bottom of the furrow has the cleats all pointing on the same side, to prevent the edge of the furrow being torn up. Managed to refit the ratchets and chain drive sprockets too......

2 pointsFinally got the last of the bits back from the shot blasters, It's taken a while, but he was soon forgiven when I had to climb over several landrover chassis to get to my bits!! ! Anyways...... More metal means more painting! The big 20" ploughing wheels and the smaller 8" wheels have had 2 coats of the brush on and been left to dry.......

2 pointsPut the decals from Titch on the fuel tank today, then ran the engine for the 1st time properly. Had it running for about 1/2 hour, will need a tune up once refitted to the gearbox and the throttle cable is refitted, but it runs well!

1 pointStandard old school practice but not with petrol - elf and safety. Paraffin , diesel or even water, but if valves are correctly lapped they will seal correctly. Only ever use the paste from the fine end of the tin; if that is not sufficient they need to be refaced and the seats cut. If the coarse paste is needed to recover a bad valve or seat the chances are that you will end up with a convex valve face and cupped seat. The days when cars needed a decoke every ten thousand miles and every village garage had refacing and seat cutting facilities are gone - as are the garages: so us small engine types have to seek out those who have the kit. A decent garden machinery workshop should have it as will vintage motor bike shops but otherwise it will be engine reconditoners who may turn up their noses at our sort of kit.

1 pointA trick I use, but can only be applied to OHV engines after valves have been lapped in and re-assembled, is to pour petrol down the ports. If any dampness appears then I re-do them. If petrol can't get through, neither will gases.

Early Rotoscythe

What a coincidence, I've just dug out one of that last Rotoscythes made under the Webb Windsor banner that I've had in store for 30+ years . Despite main bearing wear that makes setting the points interesting it makes a good job of the lawn. https://www.dropbox.com/s/9zrlm7flb2hg0xv/IMG_1989.MOV?dl=0 -

Yet more painting! Seems like a never ending task, with all the attachments etc........ At least there's only the gearbox left to do once I get it back from having new bronze bushes fitted!
