  1. You jammy so and so, Chris.
  2. Had run over to an old friend who is a bit of a Ransom addict. Well more than a bit. 11 at the last count and a goodly collection of various implements. Unfortunately they were all tucked away. But a few photo's for you. He's had a look at MoM, so hopefully he will come along and tell us about them.

    Lost drive.

Decided to mow the green this afternoon, as it is a bad forecast. I'd just started and so did the rain. Anyway I carried on and finished it. Before I put the horse back in the workshop, I cleaned off the worst of the grass. When I restarted to drive into the yard, no forward or reverse motion. Pushed it into the workshop and started to investigate. The outcome of which was the crankshaft pulley key had come out. I think it must have been a bit loose for a while. The crankshaft keyway is undamaged but the pulley keyway is just a tad worn for half it's length. I've put the key back, but 45 degrees to how it was, making sure the grub screw is nice and tight. I've only got 6mm key steel, so I'll be making a stepped key at a later date. In the mean time I'll keep a watchfull eye on things.
  4. Tell her that Chris and she probably will. After you.

I had a trip over to my local - ish garden machinery centre yesterday, to see if they had a condenser. Unfortunately not, but they did have an electric ignition module thing. So I got that and fitted it today. You join t to the wire going to the coil. After fitting and flywheel back in place, I decided to see if it worked. I didn't replace the spark plug, just lay it on the engine. Spin the motor and a good spark. Replaced the plug then fired up the engine. Started fine and I gave it some revs. No problem except for one. There was a pop and something flew through the air and across the workshop. I also felt drops of liquid on my face and oil spraying everywhere. Now then, I hadn't replaced the engine cover yet and what fastens to that? Yes, the oil filler tube. The pressure with the high revs had blown it out. Be warned!
  6. I wonder why it's round though and not square?
  7. What colour is the clutch fluid? If black, then the cylinder seals are going. Are the replacement cylinders of a good make? Not cheapo's from the far east.
  8. Thing is Paul, I will eventually sell it, as to leave it to one of the sons-in-law or grandsons would cause a bit of family upset. It would be nice to see it running, but as said, it will need pressure testing first.

Cheers lads. I'll set them at 20 but I reckon I'll have to get a condenser. Be next week though.

Pulled the Mountfield ride on the grandsons use to ride about on, into the workshop yesterday. It's stood outside covered up all winter. Just like the last few winters. Difference this time it would not fire up. No spark. Pug tested OK. On looking at the points, water had somehow found it's way in. Under the condenser was a white waxy deposit. This I suspect was out of the condenser, though the casing is not rusty. But a deposit could be seen between case and the insulation where the wire exits. Comments? Not to worry, I have a spare engine lying. Only thing was, when I opened it no points or condenser. I must have robbed it a few years back. What I want to know is what is the points gap? Armature is 10 - 14 thou and plug 30 thou I think. Info greatly appreciated. It's an 11hp engine.
  12. Nice sunny day today so I thought I'd cut the green etc. Be nice to ride round on the C-125 mowing and sweeping. That's what I thought anyway. Just about to fit the cutter deck when number 3 grandson landed. So while HE rode round mowing and sweeping, I had to use the self propelled mower to cut the lawn and the soft verge by the pond. He then drove off down the lane with Saxon trailer in tow, along with his grandmother, to collect rocks for her rockeries. The only riding I've done was to put it away in the workshop.
  13. I thought the Planet one was a hockey stick at first. How does that work?
  14. Nice job. That's a well designed machine. Good clean lines that will be easy to keep clean. Nice colour as well.
