  1. Started tinkering with an idea for a stand this afternoon. If I go this route I’ll need to cut the mount, drill and tap, add some small rubber feet to the base, etc. With this setup I could make it adjustable as well and the suspended height will also be ready for a cut-away gearbox some day.  I stuck an old engine on there to sort of get a visual. Of course when it’s mounted to the bar it’ll hand about 2” lower.

  2. JustO&R- Yep, this has to be a busy time for you normally but I can imagine the bump in insanity now that people are at home and can focus on their yards... it’s good your business is doing well!

FYI- I’m going to pass on the J motor I found but if anyone else is interested just let me know and I’ll point you to it. The price isn’t too bad really, I just have some other priorities right now. Wallfish- it’s up in your neck of the woods...

  3. Ohhh man that’s looking nice!  You’re right, that is one of the coolest O&R tools. I’ve never seen another one. I saw a different style winch one time but nothing like this Bejay.

That's like the same gearbox on the snow blower. It has that extra little shaft and gear on the front.

If it has a 1/2 inch shaft on there I can use one. Never noticed the taper on those gearbox shafts are different than the engine taper is and lost the one for my current winch project. The gearbox shaft has a longer taper

I thought it looked familiar. Photos aren’t great so I can’t tell much about shafts and stuff. It’s missing the gas tank.

What size shaft do you need, lengthwise? I’ll look through my stuff, not sure I have one but I can check.

  5. Yep, this is a nice one. I kind of like the C-shaped bracket, it’s a nice clean touch.  I need Terry to work his magic for me...

I have a couple nice 3/8” base plates already laser cut, just need the bracket and to mount some nice rubber feet/pads, kind of like that model 227 I did a few months back.

  6. Ha... not exactly. I might have a line one and just trying to see what seems reasonable for it. It looks a bit rough and in need of some major TLC like most of these. It has the larger gear box than say a typical chainsaw, maybe for a mini bike application or something???  I’m tempted...

  7. Curious, looking for opinions - is there anything particularly desirable or special about the 3/4 hp “J” model engine with gear box? Just trying to understand what might a reasonable price and if this model could/should command a higher price for any reason.

  8. Good ideas David. I’ve been contemplating some sort of display stand like that. Part of the challenge is the engine mount tab has been cut away from one side of the engine. I don’t really like the idea of suspending it with all the weight on one side without some sort of secondary bracket that makes contact with the bottom or some other part on the engine to give it some more stability.

my engine is currently stuck so I’ll have to take it all apart as some point to free up the piston if I wanted to demonstrate movement of al the parts.

    McMaster Carr have stainless steel Phillips Fillister head screws in sensible order quantities, they also have Slotted version in both zinc plated steel & stainless steel;

I’ve had good luck with McMaster and even the local Ace Harware stores here in the US for Phillips Fillisters in stainless steel.

That was impossible for me, work don't like people looking on their phones, plus many cameras are now watching & being used against us. :(

Yep, same here but in the evenings and on the weekends it’s hard to stay away from checking in on you guys!

I'm not sure about the tank as it hides some of the cut-away parts, plus there is nowhere for the condenser to attach.

Yep, that is my one hang-up as well. It doesn’t cover up visibility to the parts too badly but a little. If I do end up using this tank I’ll just attach the condenser to the recoil cover at the 9 or 10 o’clock position. I’ve seen several engines set up with the condenser attached at this location, like this Tiny Tiger.  I might just use the tank temporarily since it does make for a nice convenient way to display it and keep it from falling over or getting damaged. I can then work on making a nicer display with a custom bracket later.

  12. Ahhhh, yes you had to bring up the outboard... I still need to get back to that one.  Maybe I should hold off on the Mono and make some more progress on the outboard and the other saw first.  Self control.... it’s too easy to get distracted and partially into several of these projects.

It looks like the green paint on my Mono is adhered pretty well to the engine parts but seems pretty flaky on the aluminum handle so hopefully that won’t be too much trouble.

  13. Seeing your Mono coming along so nicely is inspiring me to maybe go “Mono y Mono” and take mine out and start working on it.  I’m not a big fan of the bright neon green paint on mine but there is enough there to probably keep it original. I will need to repaint the chain cover and the recoil housing. I’m planning to also remove the paint from all the engine pieces and maybe take the remaining flaked paint off the main handle and just leave it with a brushed Aluminum finish. It might look nice having both handles bare metal. Really don’t like when they painted everything, wires and all...
