  1. Man thats looking really nice!  I’m with you, I don’t plan to paint everything on mine either, looks so much better having the normal engine parts not painted.  Nice job removing the original decal!  Do you still need/want one of the decals for the chain cover side?

Clint, check that your starter has the groove for that retaining ring.

Good eye David, this engine doesn’t have the groove for the retaining ring.

@CNew Do these cut-away engines still have a serial number or is it just blank? Obviously no model number as that side has been cut-off.

I couldn’t find any serial or model numbers anywhere on the engine.

The one I posted is not mine either, just a web pic but definitely thought about doing one of these myself. Shouldn't be too hard using a band saw and a Dremel cutoff tool.

Great idea, maybe I’ll look into this at some point. I can probably find a gear box from an old chainsaw or something and use a Dremel cutoff tool to replicate it or I could use my O&R cutoff saw.... J/K

P.S. What's the Somme (WWI) got to do with it? :yankchain: We don't want that getting out, as it's bad enough people incorrectly listing them as WWII vintage. :banghead:

Woops, that was just suppose to just be “some”, I dislike auto-correct...

  5. Yep, needs the reel but I have an extra so that’s covered.

I had forgotten about the other posting on here for the cutaway engine. That’s actually the one that got me spun up and hunting for one!

I just scrounged through some parts and found most of what I need to get the starter in display-ready condition.

That’s really interesting.  Look closely at the section just below the exhaust collector, on the typical military 133 there are three “fins”. On your latest engine stamped 133 it doesn’t need have those fins, it looks more like Somme of the earlier models. Wonder if it was mis-stamped?

  7. I’ve been hoping for a long time I would find one of these and after months of constant searching I finally hit gold.  Wish it had the cut-away gear box too but I’m thrilled just to have the engine. It needs a recoil spring and pull rope to complete it and of course a thorough cleaning. I’ll have to come up with a cool display stand as well.  It’ll look cool with the recent brochure that also shows this engine.

  8. Well, whoever it was got a pretty good deal. I’m a little bummed because I told the seller I would go up on my counteroffer but didn’t get a response. Then it sold for less than where I was at and where the seller was bottoming out. O’well, live and learn... again...

  9. I got the carb lever arm off to that guy...

the problem is I don’t have the parts to make this a glow engine

    :yankchain:

I’m curious, what all is required to convert one of these to a glow engine?
