Or change out the bottom half to a ball type...

Exactly, that’s likely what I will do in this case.

I am curious to tinker with some ideas like John proposed just to see if we can find something that will work.

Nice saw  I guess you have your work cut out for the next year with all the projects you have.

( can't find anything out there someone is snatching them up)

Yes, I do have my work cut out! I’ll send a few links your way as I stumble across stuff.

If you're up for a challenge concerning the rubber check valve on the carb arm? Float valves for some carbs use a small rubber tip to seal the valve and that rubber tip could be used to make one.

I’ve probably got a couple of those tip seals laying around from all my Kohler K241 and K90 rebuilds.... hard part is cutting it to size and somehow attaching it Tom the little lever arm, not sure if glue could take the abuse.

  3. Landed a pretty cool Lancaster 15SLA chainsaw. Just opened it up tonight so I haven’t been able to dig into it in great detail yet. After a quick wipe down and initial scan it looks like the carburetor needs a complete overhaul. It had been removed and dismantled. Unfortunately it is the style with the little rubber plunger arm and that is missing:banghead: It’s also missing the carb lever arm spring. Looks like the throttle cable is also broken where it goes into the handle, I won’t know the extent of it until I open it up. Other than those obvious issues and a couple misc. screws it looks to be in really nice shape, the paint is nice and bright and only worn in a few places.

The starter pull handle is also kind of neat. It resembles the 13B handle but has a much nicer taper and is smaller. At first I thought someone might have put a 13B handle on there in place of the little wooden ball but I’m convinced this is the original handle. I saw another chainsaw like this online that had the same style handle as mine.  The air cleaner is also kind of neat and attaches with a 90 rubber elbow/boot.

    Never tried

They also show a 3 inch set for a different saw than you posted with the 3.5 set. In the 3 inch set there's a smaller one which seems very close to the right size for an O&R recoil so that's the set I ordered before trying to save the original. Once it arrives, I'll check it out and let you know if it will work. You can have it if it does.

Cool, yeah definitely let me know. Somehow I didn’t see any other versions when I bought the 3.25” set. I just checked the website again and found the 3” set, bummed I didn’t see that before. I’ll be curious if that’s smaller decal is small enough for the recoil.

  5. Man thats looking really nice!  I’m with you, I don’t plan to paint everything on mine either, looks so much better having the normal engine parts not painted.  Nice job removing the original decal!  Do you still need/want one of the decals for the chain cover side?

Clint, check that your starter has the groove for that retaining ring.

Good eye David, this engine doesn’t have the groove for the retaining ring.

@CNew Do these cut-away engines still have a serial number or is it just blank? Obviously no model number as that side has been cut-off.

I couldn’t find any serial or model numbers anywhere on the engine.

The one I posted is not mine either, just a web pic but definitely thought about doing one of these myself. Shouldn't be too hard using a band saw and a Dremel cutoff tool.

Great idea, maybe I’ll look into this at some point. I can probably find a gear box from an old chainsaw or something and use a Dremel cutoff tool to replicate it or I could use my O&R cutoff saw.... J/K

P.S. What's the Somme (WWI) got to do with it? :yankchain: We don't want that getting out, as it's bad enough people incorrectly listing them as WWII vintage. :banghead:

Woops, that was just suppose to just be “some”, I dislike auto-correct...

  9. Yep, needs the reel but I have an extra so that’s covered.

I had forgotten about the other posting on here for the cutaway engine. That’s actually the one that got me spun up and hunting for one!

I just scrounged through some parts and found most of what I need to get the starter in display-ready condition.

That’s really interesting.  Look closely at the section just below the exhaust collector, on the typical military 133 there are three “fins”. On your latest engine stamped 133 it doesn’t need have those fins, it looks more like Somme of the earlier models. Wonder if it was mis-stamped?

  11. I’ve been hoping for a long time I would find one of these and after months of constant searching I finally hit gold.  Wish it had the cut-away gear box too but I’m thrilled just to have the engine. It needs a recoil spring and pull rope to complete it and of course a thorough cleaning. I’ll have to come up with a cool display stand as well.  It’ll look cool with the recent brochure that also shows this engine.
