  1. Scott, anymore updates on your 850?
  2. Be interesting to see how the modification works Norm.
  3. No harm done but just remember next time
  4. Sam the hitch will not fit a TF Bolens. As for price I think you will be paying a lot more than you would want. Best not to advertise to everyone what you seen as everyone will know about it now.....
  5. Alain, yes GTT is slowly disintegrating and many have migrated over to Tractor Fanatics as well as social media like Face Book. A shame as I like the forum very much and made some good 'cyber' friends on there. I know of several enthusiasts who have sadly passed on in the last year in both the Bolens and Morris LCV world. Yes his wife died a few years earlier prompting Dave to sell up his collection and go on a tour of the USA in his motor caravan called HMS Rainmaker. He wrote some very amusing blogs about his adventures and catching up with old friends and fellow Bolens enthusiasts.
  6. Just to let you know that sadly Old Buzzard, aka Dave South, from Oberlin, Ohio passed away on Tuesday. He was a very knowledgeable guy on Bolens and will be sadly missed on GTT.
  7. Two great looking machines you got there Alain. Well jealous !

    Tyre change.

Norm, I would be very interested in seeing how this experiment works as turf tyres are the de rigour for mowing.duties. The ag tyres will leave tread marks on the grass in my experience. Anyway be interested to see how you fare. Photos or no photos...
  9. Very rare to see a Speedex garden tractor let alone the very early Bolens RAM circa late '50s. I must get there one day.....
  10. Nice to see you gardening organically. Those Hook worms are big b'stards!

    Bolens 850

    Bumped for Scott's interest.
  12. That's a lovely old mower you got there Chris. I got a small collection of vintage cylinder mowers. The 14" is the ideal size for a town garden. I have used these mowers in the past and it certainly keep you fit!
  13. Scott, once you get that engine up and running it will motivate you to clean off all that rust and crud on the chassis. These Bolens are incredibly well made and you will be pleased with it.
  14. I thought there was a v shape cut on the flywheel? Might want to post that photo on GTT? Have you jumped the solenoid?

    Choked.

That looks like a very useful bit of kit. I regularly lubricate my mower cables when I service them. Makes all the difference.
  16. I spoke to Iain and he suggested that you start looking at the dyna start to see if it runs and work back from there. The ignition switch can also be a cause of it not starting as can a dud solenoid. I can't see why you can't connect your jump leads on the solenoid to see if that works. The seized pto and high / low lever should not impede firing up the engine.
  17. Scott, I got some responses regarding the cut out on your hood. It looks original as you rightly thought. https://gardentractortalk.com/forums/topic/69596-bolens-850-cut-out-hood-query/
  18. Yes yours is definitely a '66 model. I think there are Parts 2 & 3 on that above video.
  19. There is a YT video about firing up a Bolens 850. If I can find it I will give you the link. Have you looked at the points yet? Also what's the serial number on your tractor?
  20. I will post your query on GTT and get back to you. I will be interested to know too!
  21. Kevin and Ethan, just a short message to say many thanks for organising a great weekend at Biddenden and I am sorry I could only do the Saturday as I needed to get back to Devon to meet up with our builders yesterday (Monday). Great to meet up with like minded enthusiasts too. All the best to you two guys.
  22. Look forward to seeing updates Scott. When you drain the transmission oil be sure to use GL1 spec oil as the gears are bronze. As far as I am aware and understand the cut out on the bonnet are for the later models. I looked at my 850 today and that bonnet is the same as my 1050 which got no cut out. I am sure a more knowledgeable Bolens expert will confirm it. i can thoroughly recommend both Rick and Brian from the USA on Bolens parts. Check out GTT Bolens Forum and see their respective websites.
