This G14 has been stored outside many years before we got it and we left it outside too. Finally we found some covered storage space for it. It is a parts tractor but it is still good to have it covered

After moving everything in  the sheds I’ve found 2 Kohler K91 engines ,  by the looks of them they haven’t run for a while.
The green one I bought from Paul last year and the black one I’ve had years and can’t remember where it  came from.
The green one is missing the recoil starter and spinning it with the drill i found it had no spark, removed the points and cleaned and regapped and tried again, i did manage to get it to fire a couple of times but that’s all.
I’m going to strip the carb and put it in the altrasonic cleaner.
The black one was much the same although I did get it to run briefly so that one’s  carb is going in the cleaner’
While i was digging the cleaner out i found an Aspera engine cover with the same recoil starter but no cup so if anyone has one I’m looking.

    Well done Chris.

I know you've cleaned up and filled the centre, but I'd also tape it to protect the tube. But you'll have already thought of that no doubt.

Had another look at the rim today as to patching it up but it’s like tissue paper round the outer edge so i came up with an idea that was only going to cost some labour...
Starting with a good rim, cut it in half and then cut the rusty one in half weld the two good half’s together.

Went and collected 8 wheels and 2 seats from the sand blasters this  morning, they also sprayed them with 2k primer.
They were in a poor shape and very rusty so I’m very pleased with them and saved me a lot of work.

It's surprisingly narrow. I believe, like the Cub Cadet, JD made narrow width garden tractors as well as the usual width.  Looks in good condition.

I had a friend bend me a couple  of seat springs  pity he didn’t drill the square holes.  so most of my time was spent drilling and filing.
I’m going to load some photos back to front to see if they load in the right order.
The red spring is the original off my Suburban used as a pattern.

Here's a long bristle brush, kind of expensive but...
I typically get a bunch of cheapies at the engine shows from the vendors, they're like 3 for $1 but will maybe check this one out too.

Old toothbrushes work well too for most things

Haven't tried other brands yet. Picked this one off the shelf at Home Depot because it was cheap. It doesn't have a strong citrus smell either. Just very subtle. It's still a messy job. Forgot to mention I use a small bristle brush too, looks like a tooth brush but has longer bristles to reach down in there.
There's also citrus paint remover which works well. The wife had some so I stole the bottle one day to try. It works well but not as fast as solvent based but the trade off is worth it.

So far I'm a big fan of using the citrus degreaser. It doesn't stink so it can be used in the house. This allows me more opportunity to get stuff done during the winter months and late in the evening. It works well for cutting through the common 2 stroke oil grime on these engines and attachments. This engine plate was done late last night in my office, going out to do it in the shed is a big hassle and cold so it won't happen. It took about 15-20 minutes using paper towels and some Q-tips.
I use a small bucket to spray over and the small parts thrown in the bottom get soaked by the dripping excess at the same time. I have an old gas tank with old gas and that stink so I'll try that outside and see what happens. Hopefully neutralizes that horrible stink.
    BEFORE

AFTER. There's still some minor little spots in the nooks and crannies but that happens with solvent too. Typically I'll use a toothpick to scrape those clean. The wood doesn't scratch

Not much progress this week as I’ve been busy with other stuff but here’s the latest.
Ive made the belt guard clips and welded them on, Ive made 2 supports for the deck lift thingy and cleaned a few more bits up.
Hopefully all the panels are finished and i can get them  fitted on both tractors.
