I think we paid around £800 for it, which was a lot. But it's all original with three point and road registered. Ewan just had to have it, no Idea where he gets these whims from....

The title says it all, Ewan has spent half the summer on his cub. We've not got much footage, a bit of a play on a rainy Boxing Day seemed like a good idea. Until he conked out
The little cub was towed back to the shop and Ewan will no doubt be doing a restore thread

Don't be too upset, the U.S. government can't find 11 million Immigrant workers, but they nailed down the exact stall that contained the cow that started Mad Cow disease, go figure.

Here is a photo of my Grandfather(driving) with his first tractor. We think it was in the early 50's, go by the age of my mother and two uncles. I would love to have this tractor today but i think it was exported to South Africa. Is there any way to find out if it is still in the UK?

Another old photo of my mum when she was about sixteen on her way to feed the hens. Could you picture asking a teenager to do this today!

Got tired of getting a sore back when working at the tractors so knocked up a work bench out of some old fencing.

Nope, not a "making something on a lathe" thread, but a "using the best bits from two lathes" sort of thing

My 80+ year old Southbend lathe has served me well for many a year and all sorts of things have been made on it, but lately it has been suffering with belt slip problems and as you can see from the photo the bench it is on is starting to bend!

My other lathe is/was a TW Monoturn which to put it politely is very worn!   The base is good (apart from a crack in it) and the motor is very strong.. The rest is scrap really!

Strip down of the Southbend to make it lighter to move about..   A chance to give it a good clean as well..

The TW Monoturn soon looked like this..

And eventually it was reduced to a pile of parts.

Rather than use the lathe base/tray legs I will be using just the tray.
The bench will be strengthened a huge amount to take the extra weight of the tray and bigger motor. This is only a mock-up so the big bits of box will go and the tray mounted level on the bench once I have cut a hole for the drain bit on the tray which is lower than the rest of the tray..

The lathe and tray look good together, a good time worn match

That may be true, but only due to market threshold and range. The ATV, RTV, and other small off road equipment market is a much larger market here in the states. I order most of my tyres off ePay site and chose the lowest price with free shipping. I have compared these prices to brick and mortar store tyre prices and found internet stores to be half or more less in price. The result is that you can afford a better tyre for the same price as a poor tyre. The first thing to remember is that buying a cheap or low quality tyre that looks good is similar to courtship experiences, the wrong choice will cost you in the short run, long run, and running in general and most likely you will be running without the tyres or auto you paid for. However a premium high quality tyre not only looks good, but will bring a lifetime of good experiences that will make life rewarding. This explanation is often received well by the female in your life as she would want to think her mate smart enough to make good choices, after all you picked her.

I may be wrong, but compared to you guys over there in the States, we don't have the range of quality tyres for garden tractors readily available over here.

On mine the entire axle is pulling out of the case. The bushing, bearing, and C clip have failed letting the axle retreat to the west and possibly fall out if run to far or in circles to the left. One your hydro check the linkage and see if its charging completely forward and retreating fully in reverse, get it up off the ground and watch and see if the linkage has full travel in the slot and that it hits neutral detent area and the wheels stop moving. If in the neutral position the wheels turn either forward or reverse the linkage needs adjustment, this could cause the tractor not to have full power. Check the filter and see if it is correct filter for the tractor, sometimes people inadvertently buy filters for crankcase oil and not transmission fluid, the transmission filters not only have a small micron rating, but are different inside to insure proper flow. If you have never changed the fluid and filter I urge you to do so, using the proper parts.

Was the carb used on any other small engines? Can you cross reference the engine to another machine? Good Luck

You need to make sure your floor is oil free or the paint wont stick to it, also, if the floor has been power floated to a smooth finish you will need to scrabble it to allow the paint to key. If your new to painting floors, remember to thin the first coat quite a bit to allow it to soak into the concrete. Should be the consistency of full fat milk. If its standard floor paint you will use white spirit, if its two pack use cellulose thinners.

Managed to find enough motivation today to make my way out to the workshop.
Preheated the room and managed to get a coat on the floor which dried fairly quickly.

For the next part i had to call in my father to give me a hand to cut in the walls and floor so i could concentrate on rolling on the paint before it started to go off as it was two pack.

Still another coat to go on the walls tomorrow hopefully, and then a red band to break up the blue and white.

Got a start made on a new work bench today.
Three inch angle iron for legs and three building planks. Had to scribe the first plank to the wall as it was a bit wobbly. Still need to get some 2mm sheet folded up to go on top of the planks, make a shelf for underneath and mount the vice.

As some of you may have seen as my dad posted some pictures. I picked up a cub cadet 70 the other day with all the original manuals and number plates, here's the pictures of when it arrived.

My fully restored Wheel Horse C-121 had to go to pay for my new project.

These are the manuals that came with it and also the leaflets from the dealer in Cleckhuddersfax.
