  1. I was thinking that if the bolt and nut were not real tight it would have some give in turns. Not to pivot in a arc really, just enough to make less impact in turns
  2. no I meant does it move side to side. I know some aerators were worn prematurely by the inability to pivot, not that would happen on your tines, just wondering
  3. Great Job. Mr Showman. It looks as if it does pivot?
  4. I hope no one misunderstands my post. What you said is right and I agree. My post was just a commentary on trying to consider of another persons opinion, no matter what the topic. I never want to intentionally hurt another persons feelings, but probably have at some time, just because my beliefs are different. We should all realise that everyone's opinion and position has value, even if we do not agree or like it. My grandmother used to say, "If you can't say something nice, do not say anything at all". Well that's fine until your beliefs turn you toward advocating for social change or on a social issue. I believe that unless that issue is not one of public health or safety, advocating comes at the expense of another person position, it is truly paradoxical to say the least. That said, maybe all social commentary needs a leave of absence on the internet and from our vocal chords, unless in private company. Personally I think many topics violate standards of good manners, but not in these days.
  5. It is not easy. A post came up in the off topic section of GTTalk forum about the Tennessee military killings, most expressed sadness and prayers, but along comes a moderator who declares that this is a GT talk forum and posts concerning firearms OR politics will be taken down. http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/topic/46875-tennessee/ Okay I understand rules are rules, but why have a "Off Topic" on ANY forum if there are going to be rules about posting political or citizens/personal rights issues. I'm walking in another mans shoes by saying, that is the right of the forum to take down posts as seen fit. Still walking in another mans shoes I do not see why there would be an section for off topic if you were going to limit off topic discussions as one saw fit. I mean there is no real way to post all the off limits subjects, so why have the section in the first place. It seems on volatile subjects this only tend to invite derision in an otherwise amicable forum. If you try and see the other side of the coin, whether it be gun control, gender issues, or politics, one might begin to realize how each side feels, that they are not being represented, and their issue needs to be advocated. However advocating one side of ANY situation will bring diametric opposing opinions that tend to be derisive. So my question is, Are we being tolerant to allow any vocal advocating of any issue (other than legal), or are we being selfish and intolerant to the opposing side which has a right to an opinion? Because it would seem to me that by the very act of being an advocate you ask some to deny or dilute their opinions or views. Neither party likes that to happen to them, but it is exactly what happens when everyone is given or takes the bully pulpit in society, and especially on the internet. What I am talking about is allowing ourselves to be drawn into, and down, the slippery slope. For the instant I advocate or asked for a right that is not able to be given by any man, then I am denying a right that has been given to and earned by every man.
  6. Well 30 years is not too long considering the man died from the wedgie. What a poor way to go. http://news.yahoo.com/oklahoma-man-gets-30-years-prison-fatal-atomic-170147799--sector.html
  7. That is a NICE haul of Harrow spikes!!!! Your lucky the authorities weren't close by as there maybe a law against getting that kind of deal.
  8. That's hard to say, maybe 10 percent, a few years ago, I would have said 30 percent. This same group has set here since the mid 1990's. At one time there were more, but mostly late model MTD's that were stripped for parts and then salvaged for metal. He has less MTDs now, but about the same amount of vintage GT stuff as I saw here back in 2002. Scrap metal prices have gone down and local authorities have cracked down on the methamphetamine production so less mowers "showing up" at the salvages. It is very prevalent in the US for people to buy dozens or even hundreds of garden tractors and not sell them, but rather set them in a field to rust and rot into the earth. This behavior is a deficiency in ones personal characteristics in that someone wants them to have them, but by having them destroys them. Some call it "The Pride of Ownership", but what it is really is the inability to differentiate. It is one thing to stack the shed and lean too and what ever will fit under the tarps for future trades or use, but when you buy and never sell or protect the machines you do not care for the the machines, it is all about a persons personal feelings and characteristics. Not a judgment, just an observation. I buy the best I can find, even if I can't afford it, so there is some issues there as well.
  9. I never got the Bolens, The ad expired and I couldn't get a contact number. This Allis was one of the first Simplicity built Allis tractors since 1966, it has a Sunstrand hydro and a electric lift in it, I have a rear one point lift, 46 inch front dozer blade, and 42 inch mid mount scraper blade with it as well.
  10. hope this is a better video, I haven't even watched it.
  11. Sorry about the poor video. Very few people are allowed back here in the salvage, he doesn't sell anything from the salvage, so I was excited about getting to video. I have another shorter video as well I will post. I would say there are 300-400 machines in the salvage, maybe more.
  12. Me too, and a 8lb maul and a two wheeled wheel barrow that can easily hold 400lbs of dirt, keeps me in shape for when I have to move my 315lb electric motor to another spot, I've been using it as a door stop until last week when I sold it. The guy that came to get it said he was disabled (didn't appear so, but okay) and happily asked me to lift it onto the tailgate of his truck, knowing how much it weighed.
  13. I'm an old fart, I forgot what GT we were talking about. I've had this GT for about 8 years it has 950 hrs and I bought it from my Aunt who bought it new.
  14. I couldn't help myself and probably wont be able to again if I can find a set of 15" inside wheel weights for a D series Wheel Horse. My 1975 Allis Chalmers 716H was the last Allis/Simplicity machine without wheel weights, I had to buy them, I just had to. Now I have to figure out how to acquire 650 in cash to go get another tractor 400 miles away. I don't have a job, I don't want to sell anything, I'm way past selling my body, or so the wife says, lol. So now I have to get creative, hmmm.
  15. as always pessimistic. I have a problem believing much, supposedly the company ceased to exist in 1957, but they may not be the case, Bolens mower history is proof of that, never say never, lol, you got me on that one. Of course literature and manufacturing are quite different. But I believe you may be correct sir as in the early 50s Kuchen designed German motorcycles were sold as Motosacoche's, but this was a failure and by 1956 motorcycles were no being made, but MAG stationary and industrial motors continued. http://www.mag-motoren.com/Ueber%20uns/Uns-Index-mag-aktuell-englisch.htm
  16. Reminds me of Jimmy Doolittle and the Doolittle raid over Japan when he flew 16 B-25 bombers off the deck of the USS Hornet. But before the war Doolittle was quite the pilot and adventurer. In 1932, Doolittle set the world's high speed record for land planes at 296 miles per hour in the Shell Speed Dash. Later, he took the Thompson Trophy race at Cleveland in the notorious Gee Bee R-1 racer with a speed averaging 252 miles per hour.
  17. The Loon is a magnificent and amazing creature, Loons of all varieties only have two legs, evens those that walk upright
  18. I think what you have there is a Red-throated Loon, the smallest of the loons, the Red-throated Loon breeds at high latitudes in North America and Eurasia. It is distinctive among loons not only in size, but also in behavior, vocalizations, locomotion, and other aspects of life history.
  19. I believe the Red Army suffered more losses against the Germans than the Allies did in all three theaters, Europe, Asia, and Africa. They and the Chinese were very weak when the war ended, it was why MacArthur wanted to to nuke the Chinese during Korea, he thought if we let them rebuild they would come after the US in time, and not just Asia. Many military brass wanted to push the Red army back to Stalingrad after April of 1945, but our politicians saw too many lucrative defense opportunities in a Cold War that could last ten times as long as a real war. In all fairness the Russian people and Red Army were abused by the Germans almost as much as the Jews, Russian civilian losses went into the millions, When the tide turned for the Red Army they were out for blood and revenge, Russian style, not pretty when fueled by Vodka and Borscht.
  20. And put American workers out of work, no way, politicians wouldn't like the government to save any money. They probably justified it by saying they would save on fuel on the trip home, yeah right
  21. Well at least you didn't say 18th Century.
  22. Is your belt routed like this?
  23. That is a very good deal, the refurbish kit cost is nearly what your asking
  24. Seems pretty matter-a-fact when they were facing a German fighter
  25. Great photos (not as great as those of Rita Hayworth) of 150 US aircraft laying in 130 feet of clear water in the South Pacific. None of these American planes were shot down, they were pushed off the sides of ships. I think that was about the time Rita Hayworth was touring the area possibly causing the American sailors to push everything overboard to make room, lol, just kidding, maybe http://theaviationist.com/2015/07/12/airplane-graveyard-in-the-pacific/
