This may sound overly simple or stupid, but when you engage the cutter deck blades is the deck in the highest position it can be in? I always tell people to engage the blades with the deck up, then slowly lower the deck, engaging the blades with the deck down and at an increased angle will cause most belts to try and remove themselves from the pulleys. I know many newer model lawn or riding mowers have this issue as they age, just not sure why it isn't more prevelant when the mower is new.

I have so many other projects, a repair on a Ariens HT18 for a friend, sorting out some electrical issues with the Well House, trying to figure out if I want to replace a wall oven or put in a stand alone unit. Then I have a 1973 CASE 224 in pieces I want to restore, I already did the deck and blade. I also have a 1974 Homelite T-16H that I'm working on building a rear lift and lift rod for. On top of all that I have decided to restore the Bolens 1556 and I have it torn down and almost ready for primer. I have finals the first week in May, I start summer school session the second week in May, I'm taking Humanities 2 and Internship 2. My Internship 2 class is in Cultural Anthropology and I will be working at a Native American dig site 11,000 years old not far from my house.

Next week is finals week so I have to "make hay while the sun is shining". I set an old basketball goal up in cement to use as a hoist, mowed the yard, used the edger around nearly a kilometer of fence line. Also spent some time watching some onions grow and beans, corn, okra, and potatoes try to break through the soil.

Very interesting. If you can post pictures from other angles it would help to assess the tractor.
-
ditto, ditto, cant wait to see what emerges from the cavern
-
Andrew, I think I can see your face in the reflection of the hood of your Bolens, GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
-
I think that is right, but then shouldn't the frame on yours be Brown?
-
Those decals look very, very nice. There aren't many Bolens around here, may be more of them over your way. I collect 1970-1979 hydrostatic drive garden tractors all 14/15/16 horsepower, that way I leave some tractors for others, because I don't leave many that fall into this category

Laws that benefit the rich or enable the poor are not really laws they are benefits to those above the law and constraints on those beneath the law. We have those laws here as well. It is why I do not enter into any agreement with an employer, government, or state. In thirty years I have received a check from no man, I work only when I need too and only for goods and silver. Retirement package really sucks, but life is good, no mail from those that think they own me or my garden.

I believe that number is just a stocking number, it could also indicate the type, as I think this number correlates to a vertical shaft engine type used on both twins and singles with vertical shafts
EDIT: It looks like he number correlates to the engine type to identify the crankshaft used in the particular engine. Not all that up on Briggs engines, but Kohler used between 70 ad 100 different crankshafts in the 14hp Kohler k321

You mean you are considered dishonest if you don't declare what you find? What happened to "finders keepers, losers weepers". It would seem that if it was under ground you owned and not a a public resource such as oil, coal, or water, what was on your property should belong to you.
-
Thanks Andrew, but my I'm still first on the list for the old Bolens find, lol. I really hope that find surfaces, because it will be a treasure trove to you guys. It seems every time I open Yahoo news I'm hearing about one of you blokes over their finding some sort of treasure, or coin. Do you all own metal detectors or are they permanently attached to your arms, lol

Period fasteners are getting hard to acquire, many like plow bolts can be found at Fastenal here in the States, but they are getting scarce, as are domed carriage bolts and screws with attached grip/washer surfaces
-
I accidentally made double post here on this subject, can a moderator delete the one without pictures? Thanks
OOOPS, I gues the one with pictures was deletd

albanycountyfasteners.com has the sheet metal screws for Bolens tube frame tractors, the later models with the two lower side covers take 25 screws in total for the side panels, dash tower, fender pan, etc. Really hard to find real truss head screws any longer, I've been looking for these for a while. Stainless steel to boot and under 10.00 US with free shipping on eBay

The people of Britain, soldiers and civilians alike, mounted one of the greatest efforts against one of the most overwhelming foes in history. They are all hero's. Americans have never known what it is like to be under siege, it might do them good to realize much of their petty bickering is childish. They do not know what real problems are. I wish they taught more history in schools, the actions of the RAF were nothing short of miraculous.

Really great story

I thought you were local to Dr. Healy, I believe he practices near Kent

Apparently British military spending has seen a decrease, here's the ship they sent after me Andrew

I go to University with a young man from Canterbury, well actually from Marsgate he went to school at Canterbury, his father is a Doctor there. He uses skype to visit friends and family and I wonder how good the process/experience was
-
I hope they fair better than the U.S. Air Force in intercepting a Gyro pilot at the Capitol, because my row boat will have stealth capabilities and I will be disguised as Stephen Fry. I also do not believe that you are British Andrew, not knowing proper spelling and all.
-
Just wondering if anyone here uses skype?
-
Stampede started, I need a boat and oar.

The tube frame 1556 was only made in 1972 and the Large Frame 1477 was only made in 1971, I would think either one of these would be very hard to find anywhere. Even though the ride-a-matic and round hoods are earlier tractors they made many more of them, but they are becoming very scarce. tube frames used two thck tubes attached to Baluster up front and the cast iron rear end in back, the Large Frame was, well, larger and used a heavy channel frame. Large Frames were the first to be able to use Cat 0 three points, previous Bolens models utilized a sleeve hitch for raising implements, and Large frames were hydros, were very few tube frame models were hydros, many not offering a hydro lift either which was standard on the large Frames
Whoa Andrew, I believe Alain comes before Andrew, your second
-
My tractor is a 1476, very similar, but older Large Frame Bolens with the single cylinder Wisconsin 14hp, just make sure you have the right size crank shaft to use the three pulleys and you should be fine
