Alan reacted to rolloman 1 in My Gutbrod Lockdown Tractor
Hello all some pictures of my new Gutbrod which was bought just before lockdown and after many weeks of cleaning, and a lot of TLC, and some welding we fitted the loader and Bucket , and also the double rear wheels yesterday . I think its a superb bit of kit , just the rear wheel weights to be fitted .
The wiring needed sorted out but it has another feature I like the very hard to come by hour meter in the dash it doesnt get any better hope you like its another tractor for Gutbrod Scotland

Alan reacted to Stormin in Only mad dogs.
Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
Done a bit of clearing up for a neighbour. Cut a some sieves down a couple of weeks ago, with the C-81 and finger bar. Today my neighbour and I gathered them up ready to burn.
Thought I'd give the Black Horse some exercise, as it hadn't been run for a couple of months at least. Was rather reluctant to start, but eventually we went next door with trailer in tow. In the field the Black Horse started acting up. Would run and idle fine, but if shut down would be hesitant to restart. Took it home and got the Sears/Roper for trailer duty.
Lost count of the trailer loads, but quite a few. Photo's of last load.

Alan got a reaction from Joseph in Bolens drive pin
Forgot to insert the 1054 pin a few times at John's after we had removed it to push the tractor around in the shed. Didn't want to fumigate ourselves with the engine running. Never had that bother with the Wheel Horses. Another good video Joseph. And Dad ?

Alan reacted to Joseph in Bolens drive pin
When we are asked about Bolens tractors, it is often a question about the rear axle drive pin on geared Tube Frame tractors.
The usual question are, "why can't I push the tractor?", "I put it in gear and let up the clutch and nothing happens?" and "what do I do if the pin is seized?".
I am sure others get asked the same questions. I decided to cover this in a video as it is easier to show people a video than explan the details

Alan reacted to Joseph in Busy day with our 1972 Bolens 1054
It is very handy to be able to take the seat cover off when it is raining, saves the embarressment of a wet bottom

Another good video Joseph. although I couldn't hear what you were saying. Might have been at this end. That seat was bad at John's, now it looks WELL past it's use by date. Next job maybe.

Alan reacted to Stormin in R.I.P. Disco.
My Land Rover Discovery failed it's M.O.T. today. Terminal chassis rot. Could have been patched, but not really viable. So after six years ownership and many a thousands miles, it was time to bid adieu to the old girl.
Disco's replacement now occupies it's parking space.
Hyundai Santa Fe. 2.2 4cyl diesel. 5 speed box and goes like the proverbial off a blanket. Got all the bells and whistles. Leather seats, cruise control, air con etc. etc. Towing capacity 2-1/2 ton and enough room in the back to sleep in.
Luckily Carol likes the colour, as she knew nothing about it 'till I brought it home.

The 1054 is still in regular use and it's main job is towing trailers. Over the winter it developed an oil leak and it was time for a repair

Alan reacted to Wallfish in Micro Power mini bike build
Since these little bikes are so rare and don't come up for sale very often, I decided to build a repop. Doubtful I would spend the money these things get even when they do show up for sale, so this is most likely the only way to add one to the collection.
Bending the pipe looked pretty easy to begin with but I had to do quite a few just to get twins of each. Making a template and making a better bender would be much easier to reproduce exact copies but since I don't have exact dimensions except for some basic height and length, making templates is too difficult to scale the size from pics. Once I get exact dimensions of certain points from an original maybe I can make a bender and a template to achieve a more accurate reproduction. So for now it was lots of back and forth referencing pics and lots of guessing, this came out fairly close but think the seat needs to move forward. It took a few tries to get a tool made for doing the flat ends of the pipe where the wheels mount too so they look right.
It's was being worked on for the last few weeks here and there and I stop whenever I hit a road block but get back to it later with fresh eyes and typically a new approach will work out. Got to this point today which is enough to post some pics. Think the handle bars are a bit too wide as they are but intentionally left them long since they can always be cut.
Banana seat caused some headaches with bending twins. The original flat seat would be much easier.
Getting ready to weld the engine support.
Threw on a recoil so it looks more O&R and set a tank on there. The O&R tank will probably stay instead of a larger original type tank
And here's what it's supposed to represent

Alan reacted to Stormin in Toolbox.
While looking around for things to do, I spied a little toolbox on a workshop shelf. Now all three Wheel Horses have toolboxes fitted to their fenders, but not the Sears/Roper. I've been reluctant to drill holes in it's fenders.
Looking at the back end, I noticed a couple of bolts securing the seat mount sticking out with some thread showing. Just enough to fasten something on.
So yesterday the toolbox got a rub down and a coat of primer. Followed by a couple of top coats of mat black. I've no gloss.
This morning I fitted it.
Nice fit methinks.

Alan reacted to Joseph in Bolens Ride-a-matic
My mum and sister wanted some raised beds made for the garden. As we are still in lockdown we had to use materials we already had. We created a video of building them which features lots of Bolens action with the 1962 Bolens Ride-a-matic

I'm guessing I know where the ladders and tower came from. Looking good so far Chris.
