  1. Thanks for the reply guys! That SIP welder sounds powerful Mark! I have looked at Hobbyweld Rocboni but have emailed BOC as apparently they do a Volkszone deal which is a deal for hobbyist, none-business use welders like me, I am awaiting a quote from them. I have decided on a Clarke 160TM welder and will be purchasing on Wednesday as Machine Mart are having a VAT free evening :D

  2. A bit late I know but you definitely want ags and in my personal I'd go with wheel weights, if it's a tractor that ploughs all the time then you can ballast them, but if you are doing other jobs such as mowing the good thing about wheel weights are that they are removable because you don't always want the weight. Just an idea. If you are struggling to find wheel weights John Deere make ones that fit the same rim as a wheel horse they are green but I'm sure you could spray then if it bother you that much! Let us know what you go for.

  3. Hi all,

After having cleared up my workshop and bought myself a few new toys to go in it the next thing I am wanting to renew is my welder. Currently I have a small Clarke mig welder which has the disposable bottles which does the job but not to the standard I would always like. It's definitely getting a bit past it now. What welders do you guys use? I am tempted by another Clarke as they have good reviews, something like a 160EN or even a 160TM. Also I am not sure whether to go for disposable bottles again or rent some bottles, I am tempted by the latter but I don't weld that much, although recently I seem to have been welding loads! Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

  4. Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the positive comments. I can't wait to test it and hope the geometry of it works out OK. There is a fair bit of adjustment on the plough itself so I am hopeful. Keep watching as there is more to come soon :)

  5. Hi all,

With the recent sale of the Brinly plough for over £600 and having no luck finding one and after seeing Marks amazing adaptation of a Barford atom plough I set about adapting a spare Barford atom plough I had. I only have a slot hitch at the moment so I adapted it to suit a slot hitch but no welding or modification was made to the plough I just used the original bolt holes which means it can be reverted back to a plough for a Barford atom or even changed for a sleeve hitch. I cut a part out of some 8" box section we had to make the L-shaped bracket and then used a piece off of an old forklift carriage for the bar which will go in the slot hitch and be welded to the underside of the L-shaped bracket. It's currently only G-clamped.

I will cut the bracket down so there is no risk of it hitting the fender and so the adjustment lever has enough space to move.

  6. This one isn't as cool as the sickle bar I got a few weeks back but it's still wheel horse and it was a bargain so I'm happy :D

It needs a fair bit of love and attention but it's all there and it's solid. I will most likely spray it with oil and stick it in the shed until I have time to get it back to working order. It also needs a bag, whether you can still obtain these I don't know...
