Long overdue update but here are some photos of what I have been up to.

Here is one of the rear rims which is in a really bad state, it's nearly rusted through in places and the centres are really bent but I've done my best to straighten them out.

One of the spot welds had expanded with the rust so I used a dremel to try and grind as much out as I could and then we filled it with weld.

In the meantime I'm looking for a set of 6 inch rims that are in a better condition if any one has any?

The transmission and chassis had their final coat of undercoat and are ready to paint with yellow.

One of the track rod ends was rusted on and even with some heat it just snapped the threads off so my dad made this nifty repair.

I've now sandblasted some more bits and they have been primered.

I got some new bearings and reassembled the starter generator which is now nice and quiet.

The rims have been painted with IH white and then the tyres are being fit this morning, with a bit of hope the weather will stay dry and I can paint the rest of the rims this weekend.

As some of you know I entered the 2016 Annual ploughing match.
The ground was wheat stubble and had large mose patches which made traction a problem up hill, anyway i had a go.
Not having done it before i entered the novice class and was shown to my spot which was twice as big as the horticultural section and the only ride on tractor in the class all the others were full size tractors.
Anyway we marked out and did my opening and then carried on and did the patch ( and we weren't last to finish) I learnt a lot throughout the day with lots of advice from friends and need to make a few alterations to the tractor.
Heres the photos and running list and results, i was very pleased and had a good day and I wasn't last which was a bonus.

Nice buy, I saw that on the bay and wondered if it was a brinly plough, wish it would have been closer to us I'd have been tempted.

Convert the lift to a solid bar, Koen. That's what Mark and Ewan did to Ewans Wheel Horse. I've done the same with the Black Horse. No more cable problems.

Just finished this for a local haulage company.
Its a Tamiya 1:14 scale Volvo tractor unit, which has a 3 speed gearbox and electric motor and a scratch built trailer. Total length, 4 feet.

It feels like i have been cleaning and sanding parts forever, but eventually got to the point where i could start to blow on some paint. Made a bit of a spray booth out of the frame of the gazebo and a couple of sheets. Didn't want the workshop covered in over spray.

The Wheel horse now has something that it never had from the factory, primer!

Jonathan, (expeatfarmer), asked me if I'd like a trip out to a local scrap/reclaim merchants. Object of the exercise was to see if he could find some pallet racking and have a ratch about.
We had a good day and visited two reclaim places and another that sells/breaks mowers etc. Unfortunately no suitable racking was found. But we didn't return empty handed.
At the first place I got two short window sash weights to hang on my plough.

Nothing at the second, but at the third we both got items. I'll leave Jonathan to say what he got.

    I got this roller.

10" dia x 37" wide. Will require modifying to make a ballast roller and a frame made.

At the place I got the roller, we asked about Wheel Horse wheel weights.  "I had some", he said. "But couldn't sell them". "I think I threw them in the scrap, but I'm not sure".    We had a search around but no weights to be found.    Not surprisingly really, with stuff buried under more stuff. He's going to have a look and let us know if he finds them. Here's hoping.

A few photos if the tear down.

Its surprising how quickly these Wheelhorses come apart.

Someone must have had a problem with the belt slipping at one point and made up a couple of crude brackets. The rear most one was actually wearing away the back of the belt.

That Kohler engine is one heavy son of a bitch. They are certainly made to last.

The Wheelhorse has been painted at some point in its life and after the engine was removed i found a patch of the original paint, which was quite pink to my surprise. Most of the information i have found about paint colours say to use International Harvester 2150. The closest i can find, going by what was under the engine is Ral 3001 signal red.

Now the work hard really begins, cleaning, sanding and painting.

Funny you should mention that Doug, I was talking with Nigel about evil looking red eyes rather than just the normal lights

I agree mate, the original light unit only needs a little trim to make it fit, so it makes sense to me

A bit more of the WN story for you chaps..

With the chassis cleaned up and coated in the red stuff, I started to look at the vast amount of smaller parts that need cleaning up... Which got me thinking that I have a blasting cabinet and compressor both of which had not been used since I moved workshops well over a year ago!

As the compressor is a tad on the large side the fear was the current drawn when starting it up would cause problems with the workshop wiring which could best be described as "needs work"!
Anyway, nothing went bang or produced any smoke so a clutch pedal went into the blasting cabinet....

Not bad, maybe the blasting medium is a little coarse but we shall see what it looks like with a couple of coats of red oxide.

Only a couple of problems with the blast cabinet...   It needs to be raised by 6 inches or so so I'm not bent over using it..  And I need to sort out a dust extraction system as despite a good vent pipe it can get a bit hard to see what's going on.. I've just dug out a spare computer cooling fan which hopefully should suck out enough dust so I can see what I'm doing..
