I’ve put the carbs through the ultrasonic cleaner and assembled one and fitted to the engine so i now have one nice running engine.
I can say I’m well pleased with the engine as ive owned it for about six years and its been under the bench ever since.
I feel a big hurdle crossed today.

Thanks to all for looking but as time was moving on I got the welding gear out, made shaped paper templates , cut the sheet steel and stitched it in . A bit of a faff but got there eventually.

Well i've looked high and low and I can't find it anywhere. I'm normally pretty good at remembering where parts are and I can't recall seeing one since before we moved 5 years ago

Been looking at the other front wheel with a dodgey valve hole and decided that as i have a spare half of a wheel I might as well use it.
The second one was easier as I’ve done one  before, all i have to do is drill a hole for the valve, or fit a tubeless tyre,

I’ve had a massive problem with the bonnet I can see why John Deere went to plastic, this one is fibre glass and the gel coat is none existent every time you flat it strands of fibre glass fall out and it leaves a spiderweb pattern and it looks like big grooves in it I’ve flattened and primed it 3 times now

But on a brighter note all my powder coating came back and I’ve started to put the deck back together

Trans flush and refilled. Also engine oil changed.

When I came to adjust the governor, I found the arm was loose on the spindle. That was because the pinch bolt was not tight. When I came to tighten it, the nut fell off. Along with that end of the bolt.  New bolt fitted and the governor works as it should.

The tractor is already now to go to it's new home. Being collected some time next week.

I'd like to thank those who have given me advice and support. Much appreciated.

That bit is Nigel, but it was still not charging.

So I decided to have a look at the stator. Took off the engine cover etc. Undoing the screws holding the screen on, strange noises emanated from behind the flywheel. No need to guess what was making them.

Removing the fly wheel revealed a sorry stator and magnets in a right state. If you'll pardon the pun.

Bit of a mess and no wonder it wasn't charging. All is not lost though. A Raider 10 engine I rebuilt a while ago, has donated it's flywheel and stator.
Tomorrow I'll reassemble things and hopefully all will be well.

Had a few hours on the green engine today, it proved a problem to start after cleaning the carb so after fitting new points and plug cap and cranking it with an electric drill petrol started running out the carb. Another strip down revealed a hole in the float so with that changed it finally fired up.
Had it running for about an hour with no smoke or rattles so the engine sounds good but still having trouble with the idle so I'm going to fit another carb tomorrow and see if it improve's.

We had one on a lawn ranger engine that blew up, just looked in the box full of the broken parts but can't find it, we may have sold it. Will have another look tomorrow.

Finally worked out why my pictures wouldn't upload, stupid phone now takes photos in an unsupported format (by this website), managed to change it so here we are.

    new sump gasket made

Once stripped down, it was time to give the whole tractor a bit of a clean up ready to put back together.

The crankshaft bearings were jiggered so the engine was stripped down.

Back together and already sounding better.

Back on 4 wheels, i'm yet to clean the wheels up but i'll get round to it one day.

There was no way I was going to put this mess of cable back on so a new wiring loom was made later on.

Someone had tried to fix the coil bracket at some point so I fixed that.

    New idler bearing.

I gave the tin work a light sand then used some wax and buffed it up, looks great and will prevent rust.

Focus turned to the seat which was rusty, with some wire wool and water I managed to clean it up nicely.

After a busy year i'm finally getting round to posting some photos, nearly a year later!
    so heres some photos.

Steering gear after a cleanup, I like the fact you can see red paint under the yellow. This is because a MF7E is a rebranded and repainted moto mower which were red.

Steering column, needed a good cleanup but been well greased so no wear.

Looking better after a bit of a clean.

Will try post some more photos later, having difficulty uploading them

Great job on the wheels Chris! My RJ rear wheels were like that, only they had holes all the way round  Hours spent with the mig and a grinder had them sorted out

Dunc brought over the replacement fender this afternoon. So we quickly fitted it.

Looks a lot better and it's a steel one. Thanks to the Showman for the heads up.
