harryt got a reaction from slf-uk in Battery condition tester
I don't have a tester myself. However I do have a ctek mxs10 charger which will tell me if the battery can be saved or not. It has a number of settings from which I can normally charge a battery and also recondition an old battery, I love it as has saved many of my batteries that other chargers can't.

The Ultrasonic cleaner is fantastic tool especially on carbs, the hard bit is finding the right cleaning fluid to use. I have used caustic soda which is the right price
but a bit too harsh for alloy parts. I am now testing a fluid specifically designed for carbs and it appears to work well. Earlier in the week when I cleaned the
1962 RAM carb I also put in the glass bowl from the tank tap/filter and it went from brown to looking like new. When I clean the 1961 RAM carb I will take some before and after pictures
Thanks Harry, I am planning to make the remaining parts I need for the 3pt but I know I am missing some bits from both of my D-series, just need to remember which bits.

harryt reacted to Triumph66 in Vintage Tractor Trailer: Project
I just bought an old garden tractor trailer which I hope to pick up in January. I have been looking for a vintage garden trailer for some time ever since the Showman's trailer project earlier this year and came across this old one dating from the 1960s. It will need a bit of welding and new timber and possibly new tyres. It been owned by one owner for the last 40/50 odd years. I plan to do a restoration project not too dissimilar to Chris's project and will do a photo record of it. Does anyone here recognise the make and model?

Could be a speck of dirt 'tween float needle and seat.

The best solutions were on the old US Perr Forum which is no longer accessible but one of the former contributors has posted the gist of the solution on the current PPETEN forum - worth a read. If you are going the Pusa Jet repair kit route which will provide the necessary teflon washer the kits are still available under BS pt no 391413 or 4184 for the ten pack.

Put the float in a bowl of water see if it floats, I have known them to have a little split in them before now,

As nigel says test the float, you could try just dropping the bowl off and lift the float with your finger and see if it stops the fuel running through the needle valve

Yes, they do split and an additional test is to hold it under just boiled water and watch for bubbles as the air inside expands. Post a pic of the carb' , if it's a two piece flow jet they are known for flooding due to internal leaking where the angled emulsion tube screws in but doesn't seat properly. If you google Briggs Flow jet there is plenty of info.

harryt got a reaction from DougC in Latest addition to the herd
This is my most recent new toy, a gravely tractor with loader. I am very pleased with it as everything works and it is a strong tractor. Unfortunately the rear fender is missing and some has attacked the unit with red oxide. My plan is to restore it eventually and put some better tyres on the rear for traction. Here are a few pictures. Harry
