Not really the right time of year but i wanted to test the newly built engine under load so strapped on the newly welded finishing  mower and dropped it in. Chopping brush in a neighbors field  . Home made over head bar works well and somewhere to hang work lights . I wouldn,t call it a roll bar but it could only help.

Today Joseph and I hooked his tractors of choice out of storage for some Christmas workshop fun. A very diverse choice this year

We last used this Westwood diesel back in 2010 and I can't remember what is wrong with it

We last used the D-160 about 18mths ago and it has a number of electrical issues

You may remember this Bolens Husky 1054 from John's. We have already invested a lot of time and parts into this tractor and still have lots to do

This lives at work, it hasn't moved in the 9 1/2 years that I've been there. I'm not sure if the deck is still around or went in a scrap clearout.

I spotted this in this month's 'Street Machine' magazine, I know nothing about it apart from it was photographed at a drag race meeting at Sywell aerodrome, and I'm guessing that's a 4 cylinder bike engine and 'box... (is that a Honda logo?)

Just finished this there was a lot of bits missing and it was in a terrible state when I bought it , I have put a clutch on it so it’s now press and go ,made the gearing for 6 mph flat out thanks to twitch for decals, and Angus for the engine.

The Kubota B6100 Story go's on. The three cylinder D650 engine has had a few issues in this tractor but once it gets running it was fine and had loads of power. Howevery starting has been an issue loads of smoke and loads of heat plugs. I overhauled the diesel  injectors and this had no improvement. I relented and purchased a diesel compression tester. At very best i was getting around 220psi on the best cylinder. The book states it should be up around 400 to 460 psi. OPPS !!
After researching  the costs I could purchase the parts from ether Kubota or a chines copy company. I was advised to go genuine.
I turns out that I have a very early engine 000236. As the bits are on order the clean up begins.
I am going to have new liners pressed in and all new bearings ,seals and gaskets.
Will update as the build go's on

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!! Picked up my injectors after being overhauled with genuine  Nozzles. less than 24hrs from drop off to collection Fantastic service. Fitted , bleed and fired up first time . No smoke and runs like a new engine .
It runs smoother and cooler now . I think washing out the block helped.  Having a temp gauge now gives faith in what is happening. I will in time fit an oil pressure gauge. Now need a few fields to plough to bed it all in.

Well she drives again. It Appears I have a poor injector. Number one is smoke on start up but clears after a short time . Going to get them properly checked and overhauled but it will run and starts loads better than it did.

You don't want one like that, the blades cant spin on it.
Most of the small Cat 1 Woods type mowers like this come in 48" (4 foot) and 60" (5 foot), but there are some out there in 72". but I really don't think the smaller Kubota tractors would be well fitted to running a 72" mower unless the grass is fairly short. Not because they lack sufficient power, but most of these mowers are 540 rpm mowers that operate at a slower speed and the wider the width the less effective the mower may be using a smaller compact tractor.
My 35 hp Ford Jubilee wouldn't handle tall grass with a 6' foot brush hog, wouldn't even think of it with a 6' foot finish mower like this one.

After tea I opted to drop the rad on and give it another run . With a few more revs and heat in the engine she ran up clean and smooth. I will see what its like cold in the morning and refit the front axle.

Shes a runner !!!!!! Number one is smokey .I think possible injector problem. I will swop  over cylinders and see if smoke moves.

crank in with new main bearings . Pistons and rods in all new bearings . flywheel fitted. I will hang it back on the engine now as it is still lift able at this stage

Block is back with new liners . Apparently it took all a 10 ton press could do with a hot block and frozen liners. once in then machined to correct size for standard rings. Quick coat of fresh paint and now start to replace all bearings.
