Not sure how common they are, only seen one on Ebay.De in the last year. Very robust mower if well maintained. Impressed with the Wire pullstart cord, would outlast the engine.
When I look at the Drive unit on the Mower, it reminds me of the WW1 Mk1 Tank Tails used for steering.
I think they must have changed the colour scheme at some point, as this Sabo owned image is earlier than 1965 I believe-
the one you're working on seems to be in the sabo roberine collours so guessing its a transition model
went and drove two hours one way today to visit one of the biggest shows of the netherlands and took some pictures(took more but my phone didn't save them)
this project came about after a few beers(best ideas come when drinking) we had a vw caddy that wouldnt run(ecu went swimming) and a dodge daytona with a broken steering rack and after some carefull guesstimating we started hacking the two apart to make one. its still a work in progress since we cant shift from the driving seat and we lost drive
thats the front end of a dodge daytona shelby z
and here's the caddy lowered on to it
and here's a little vid from the first propper test drive
It belonged to my poor uncle Gilbert , back in 1948 the war had just ended and uncle Gilbert came home from the front he had fought hard and it had taken its toll on him and he had lost an ear, on returning to his cottage on mr, Loderc Raps farm he found out his mrs had left and moved in with one of the land girls and become a rug muncher, so he jumped on the old fordson and went down the pub and got pissed . To be continued
The engineering and styling points on this tractor are really amazing. The hood and fenders are reminiscent of an early 60's Simplicity 700 or 725, the drivetrain appears to work similar as an Economy/Jim Dandy or Amigo tractor and the transmission controls appear to work like the Wheel Horse or Gravely front engine geared tractors. The three point is akin to the Massey Ferguson Elf or early Gutbrod tractors. All in all a really well built and capable machine with the best engineering features for a working tractor. I know why you cherish it.
it looks like an elf or gutbrod because it is one, its just rebranded
i threw one of them out as it was taking up to much space in parts, still have some of the gearbox parts. i've put some literature of it on here somewhere. i also have the wheels and hubs i think.
