    New Tractor Workshop

    My main garage is about 5 miles away from where i live but you cant really nip up to it for twenty minutes work while your waiting for your dinner, so i decided to clear out one of my old pig houses which was a job on its own and use that as a lawnmower workshop. Its amazing how much junk you can gather up in a short time. Sorry about the photo quality of the photos, very dim lights and mobile phones just dont seem to go together very well. First job was to lower the celing height and put up some foil backed insulation board,it should make it a bit easier to heat in the winter and cooler in the summer. Also need to wire up new wall sockets and decent lights. Will stick up some more photos when i get a bit more done. Noel.

    Gilson / Montgomery Ward

    I have all the owner/operator, and parts manuals for Gilson/MW from 1965-1975, maybe later. They are a very well built machine of their own design, not a copy of another manufacturers drive train. They run Briggs engines for the most part, later in the 70's there were some model MW's made by Simplicity, and in the early 1960's a few MW models were made by Bolens and Simplicity? By and large though from the mid 1960's to the mid 1980 MW's tractors were Gilson made tractors. On a side note, late model Ford GTs after 1985 were also Gilson made. Engine parts shouldn't be a problem with the 12 hp Briggs. If it isn't froze up there isn't much else that some oil and a good working might not help.

    C-120 refurb.

    Wired things up today. Switch goes straight to the battery for now. It will be wired via the ignition switch eventually and fused. Filling the pump with hydraulic oil took some time. Due to where the pump is, the breather/filler is only accessible with an oil can. Finally test time. Much to my delight the hitch went up and down a treat. So on with the plough. Wouldn't lift it. After a bit of thinking, I decided to reposition the ram to fulcrum. Below is where it was. As you can see, not much leverage. So, finding a bit of flat bar I bolted it to the arm, so it was extended. Ram fitted in after much fiddling. Plough back on and not holding out much hope, I tried again with baited breath.     on saturday i mounted the gutbrod lift linkage, ( ) and did not like it one little bit, but as this is a joint project i left it on for ian to see today, (hence its now on ebay ) anyway today i made a new exhaust so out came the trusty wheel barrow again why i was doing all this ian hit all the wiring and got rid of all the crap we dont need and sorted the dynastart out ( it was full of water ) we are getting nearer to starting the engine now, it hasnt run in years.

    I can't help but agree chaps, it's nice doing a joint project and even cooler that the person in question is Nigelwith the same warped thinking when it come to fun builds... I think we have spent hours just standing back looking with a big grin.. Horse Gut just looks so right A bit of an update for you all. The steel rod that holds the pedals in place was missing so a new one had to be made. To make it easier the engine was taken out. Working out the length of the new rod. A posh tractor this Horse Gut, it has fiddle brakes on the rear Clutch pedal and the brake linkage on the left side. Nigel cut down and re-welded the Gutbrod fender pan mounts yesterday.. Which got the new fender pan sitting closer to the wheels, it won't sit perfect until I straighten the fender pan out as it's rather dented and twisted.. But it was free
