The hole was where a wing/rear view mirror was bolted on (the hood came from a racing mower), but the hole has now gone along with a few extras that were not needed. And on to todays fun and games.. Yes both Nigel and I were at the workshop today, Nigel to escape seasonal tv, me to escape a house full of kids! Starting with a sheet of ally which we rolled a rib into. Nigel doing some light shaping of the plate. A check for fit.. And the almost finished dash panel, all it needs a a choke cable fitted.

    Cub cadet playtime

The title says it all, Ewan has spent half the summer on his cub. We've not got much footage, a bit of a play on a rainy Boxing Day seemed like a good idea. Until he conked out The little cub was towed back to the shop and Ewan will no doubt be doing a restore thread

    Lathe fun

Nope, not a "making something on a lathe" thread, but a "using the best bits from two lathes" sort of thing My 80+ year old Southbend lathe has served me well for many a year and all sorts of things have been made on it, but lately it has been suffering with belt slip problems and as you can see from the photo the bench it is on is starting to bend! My other lathe is/was a TW Monoturn which to put it politely is very worn! The base is good (apart from a crack in it) and the motor is very strong.. The rest is scrap really! Strip down of the Southbend to make it lighter to move about.. A chance to give it a good clean as well.. The TW Monoturn soon looked like this.. And eventually it was reduced to a pile of parts. Rather than use the lathe base/tray legs I will be using just the tray. The bench will be strengthened a huge amount to take the extra weight of the tray and bigger motor. This is only a mock-up so the big bits of box will go and the tray mounted level on the bench once I have cut a hole for the drain bit on the tray which is lower than the rest of the tray.. The lathe and tray look good together, a good time worn match

The hole on top of the hood, is it for the dipstick or the rope starter?

    Sprayer at Newark

I saw a couple of lads wheeling this sprayer and had a chat with them, It's a Drake & Fletcher Mistifier, made in Maidstone, Kent. They bought it in the bring and buy sale.

    Day's Gone By.

Here is a photo of my Grandfather(driving) with his first tractor. We think it was in the early 50's, go by the age of my mother and two uncles. I would love to have this tractor today but i think it was exported to South Africa. Is there any way to find out if it is still in the UK? Another old photo of my mum when she was about sixteen on her way to feed the hens. Could you picture asking a teenager to do this today!

    Day's Gone By.

Don't be too upset, the U.S. government can't find 11 million Immigrant workers, but they nailed down the exact stall that contained the cow that started Mad Cow disease, go figure.

    Work bench.

Got tired of getting a sore back when working at the tractors so knocked up a work bench out of some old fencing.
