It gets better Mark. Got the tree off the roof bit by bit. I have some tiles left over from when we built the workshop. So just to make things water tight, used some to replace broken ones. While getting down off the roof onto the ladder Carol was holding, I missed my footing. Though I didn't fall, I took skin off my left elbow and kicked Carol in the face. She escaped unharmed but I've pulled a muscle or ligament I my right leg.

Woken at 5am this morning to a loud thump . On investigation I could just make out some bushes in the yard, 'tween house and workshop through the kitchen window. Funny! We didn't have any there yesterday. Further investigation, after getting dressed, showed it was not bushes but tree branches that had snapped off a larger limb. That was using the end of my house for support. This is the end off the tree. And this is where it came from. Now maybe someone will see sense and do something about the rest of the tree.

A little more progress. Found a 1/2" x 6" bolt and the threaded remains of a couple long (once} 5/8" bolts. Turned the 5/8" down to 1/2" and that gave me three pieces of 1/2" bar. Drilled the spindles where they were welded to the securing plates, welded in the replacement spindles and the result is below. Old spindles included for comparison. Fitted to the shell and lift arm refitted as it should be. I found the bore of the double drive pulley to be 30 thou bigger than the blade spindle. Didn't look worn and neither is the spindle. PO bodge? Pulley off a different deck? I bored the pulley out to 1" ID, then turned up a sleeve a tight fit, tight as knocked in with a hammer, and will be tack welded. When that's done I'll finish the bore to 3/4" to suit the spindle. I'll have to get the key way cut, but I know a man who has the gear..

Thanks for the info, Richard. I've actually found some thin nylon sheet. I also realised I'd fitted the lift bar the wrong way round. Left it for tomorrow as it was getting near dinner time.

Some more assembly done today. Tensioner assembly and wheels on. Bracketry for attachment to tractor assembled. That's it for now. Some bits and pieces to make, beg or steal next.

I like the logo on the cab front.

A good soaking with diesel for a week or so should free it up. Hopefully!

A bit of progress this morning. Shell and parts ready for assembly. I need one of these rear rollers, Chris. This is the epoxy metal replacement I'm trying. Says it can be drilled etc. One axle bolt showing wear and one with a coat of epoxy. Two coats actually. I've started to assemble some of the brackets and was going to fit the belt tensioner. Here is another clue some ones been at this deck before. The flat bar for the tensioner pulley is held in position with two nylon bridge's to allow it to move. But there is nothing for under the bar to stop it rubbing on the shell top. I cannot find a manual with a schematic assembly drawing of the deck. Can anyone help?

Just normal conditions for the North of England and Scotland this year.

Got all the bits and pieces top coated and ready to assemble. Some parts to be repaired or replaced. Also I've discovered that someone has had this to bits before. Besides some patches on the shell, there are other clues. One being a couple of odd nuts on one of the blade spindles. Front scalp roller and wheel spindle axles bolts are well worn. I've some epoxy metal repair stuff and I'm going to see if that will renovate them. Other wise I'll make new ones. One rear roller was missing and I'll let the Showman have details. He may have one or two lying about. The centre double blade drive pulley is slack on the spindle. I'll see how the epoxy works on an axle bolt I'm trying it on goes and maybe use the epoxy on that and re-bore the centre. Another option is to split the pulleys and turn up a new centre. I'll take some photo's tomorrow.
