Robins got a reaction from Triumph66 in Kohler Magnum 16 popping spluttering.
    Will do Andrew
I haven't had an engine give me quite so many trials in a very long time! When an engine is sold to you and said only to be removed due to a broken starter motor and thats been replaced now, you wouldn't expect so many settings to be completely out of adjustment, i was daft really to disguard things thinking it can't be that as it apparently ran before. Lesson learned, always check anyway. I only checked most of them because im a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the running of an engine

Well I think   things are sorted    Engine is running so much nicer today. After a bit of messing around, much thinking, and a light bulb moment, i realised the governor was fully open at half throttle, this explains the flatness. There is no way on earth this engine ran nicely, if at all, before it was removed by the last owner. With this set right i could then tweak the fine tuning and all seems good. There was a slight odd misfire, one when increasing the revs from idle and then intermittent on full revs, but this seems to have cleared up with some driving round the garden. I will test again tomorrow from cold and make sure So then got on and put my cement mixer back together. The real test will be fitting the cutting deck or pulling a trailer load of mud around can't wait!
    Thanks all

Funnily enough i finished work with a bit of spare time today and fitted the new pipes, filter, filled up with fresh fuel, wired in the electric pump and had a test. Much better  Still not perfect though, feels flat on full throttle but hoping this is now down to tuning which i will tinker with, but the popping and spluttering is gone

Heres a pic I took tonight of the engine and stack fitted.

Think i may check valve clearance again now ive had it running just to re-check things are perfect in their.

Excellent news Andrew, and even better news your wife approves Always good when that happens  Did she have a drive?
The pepper pots are loud but original & correct. The main reason i built my stack pipe was the want for very low noise levels.

Another nice find mate And i see by the position you have been offering it up to attach to your Morris

The ultimate work tool a Morris, you can drive to a job in it,
cut the grass with a rear mounted cylinder mower.

and use the snow plow to get there in winter

Not sure how you'll mount the sickle bar though

    Who needs a tractor

Robins got a reaction from nigel in large hole in thick steel help.
A holesaw worked wonderful, i needed two 51mm holes in 20mm plate in the end as i decided to use a piece of thick tube as a sort of bushing to spread the load. I melted a Bosch drill in the process and the Makita drill is not sounding quite as fresh as it did, but the hole saw has all its teeth and still sharp which i was surprised so i drilled a further two 51mm holes in some 6mm thick angle for a brace the other side aswell.

    54mm hole in 20mm plate.

I'm adapting a forklift frame to fit my MF50b digger so i can move pallets of bricks, bulk bags of sand ect.

with much welding and lots of thick bits of steel i have achieved what i set out to do. Only been putting this off for nearly 3 years. Holding the frame to the front bucket with a ratchet strap always seemed the easier option

I know what you mean though, ive been waiting for a spread out brick delivery for about a month or more, and then get a phone call, all 17,000 bricks will be coming at once

Robins got a reaction from Triumph66 in Wheelhorse Electro with a stack pipe.
    Hi all,
Last week I had a job come in where i needed to fabricate these for an elderly customer so they could come out of hospital after a fall. The step up to the front door was to big to manage, so an intermediate step and custom rails have helped.

But whilst making them i had a bit of time spare between metal cooling and paint drying ect, so started my Wheel horse stack pipe
Started with this, no idea what its from but fits the job and kindly donated by friend Simon. This is not the tidiest job, the welds are not perfect, and it's made from scrap parts as my budget for tractors is £zero, the offcuts are from my Mustang exhaust headers i made some time ago, so been planing this a while then

Objective is make a cool looking stack pipe, that makes the engine Quiet! After cutting it open, i welded a chamber inside for the gasses to enter (side entry in to the stack),

Then drilled through both outer and inner chamber cases and welded the inlet pipe on to just the outer case.

Then slid the inner perforated section out, and wrapped in exhaust wadding nice and tightly for sound deadening purposes, and slid it all back together and welded up the joints.

As i'm hoping to fit the Magnum 16 engine one day, i made a flange to bolt it to the engine rather than the threaded type fitments.
Sorry its fuzzy! But you get the idea.

Now why is there a pipe coming from the top and bottom you ask?

Well my plan was either it would make it quieter or it would not, but worth experimenting with. The main reason though is a support for the stack as it bolts to the chassis without looking like a huge bracket, then it wont crack the head if it's walloped. By the way it didnt help with noise so i plugged the end of the lower pipe
And here it is finished and loosely fitted to my Electro 12 for basic testing.

What do we all think? On basic testing I'm very hopeful for a quieter tractor, the engine was louder than the exhaust note, and the engine does rattle rather a lot!

Please add on pictures of your stack pipes if you want to, be great to see them.

    cheers, Daniel

It say ride on mowers, not garden tractors, so as long as you dont have a cutting deck fitted then theres your loop hole   Just attach the deck if you want to use it. And at the end of the day how on earth will anyone know you have one to say 'you must have insurance on that' ?

My Dad's had one identical to that for about 20 years Ian, damn good welder, but yes your right about the fan.

The fix on the newer shape Sip welder at the top is definitely worth doing!  Every time i tried to use it i had to mess around for ages tweaking the wire tension, made up one of your adapters and it welded beautiful! Better than it ever had before!

    Hi All,
Almost exactly a year ago i got my first garden tractor, a Wheel Horse Electro 12, fantastic machine! Everyone said they multiply and i'll get another, but I was adamant one was enough and why would i get another?
Well its happened, ive bought a 1992 Wheel Horse 312-8. There was a real need for it though Ive lots of mud to shift and my brother is keen to help.

Been stood in a barn for four years, half a days work cleaning out the carb and fuel lines, and doing some wiring work and the Magnum 12 purred sweetly  Made a front weight quickly.
And the following day went straight to work

I'm very chuffed with my new toy.

    cheers, Daniel

    Hi All,

Not had much time for my other toys recently, not even tested the Wheel Horse charging system i was planning to do just after Christmas! Ive been busy building this:

Toy Land Rover series 2  Ive spent most of the day driving round the garden in this awesome weather. Got to test these things you know

Top speed of 6 miles per hour, which is actually ample in something like this round the garden  It is a large garden

Powered by this  yeah right  working model Haynes engine just for fun and show.

    Folding windscreen.

Working front and rear lights and indicators. Plus a drop down tailgate.

Speed controller from crawl to 6 mph, with high and low range.

Its a squeeze for an adult, but easily takes 2 children up front.
    cheers, Daniel
