  1. Loading up three machines for the Ransomes display at Tractor World, 137 decided not to slow down whilst I was reversing on the trailer, I was perched on the seat but managed to hit the decompressor lever and stop the engine before I went a over t. The old sphincters were twitching a bit. We call them our toys but should never forget that things can go badly wrong. All safely loaded now and nearly ready to go.
  2. Morning Norman, to stop the engine you close the choke flap completely shutting off all air. When you start it make sure you have it well gripped in a vice or workmate as it will want to jump about and might snip some bits off you !!!!

To save us making too much mess at the show, could you drain out any old petrol and put a 1/2 gallon of fresh in the tank, would also be good if you could drain and refill the air filter with sae 20 oil. Don't forget to bring the starting handle.
  4. I was sorely tempted by a turf Trak 4 for sale on E bay yesterday tried to think of a reason for having a second one but then today someone has bought it so I was saved from myself, now I'm a bit tempted by Nathan's dumper !!!!!
  5. Hey Norman if it is your birthday it might be a good day to confess the new addition!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you are a busy chap. I wonder if there are any other owners going to the show who would fancy working on it with me ? Pretty sure that Neil will have plug, points, condenser and carb jets for us to use if needed.
  7. Sorry Norm I thought I told you when you came round last week.

If you fancy bringing it to Newbury on 8th/9th October ( Tractor World ) we could have it as a project on the stand and get it going for you .
  9. That is our camper, a Lance mounted on a 6.5L Duramax Chevrolet Silverado.
  10. Janet and I spent an enjoyable weekend over in Eskdale with our camper, I had been invited to judge the machinery classes. There were some interesting machines and superb classic cars but unfortunately a bad weather forecast obviously put off a substantial number of exhibitors. As it turned out show day weather was ideal with no rain until late in the evening. 2018 is a centenary anniversary for the show and I have been asked to stage a display of Ransomes Tractors I am trying to think of the logistics of transporting 15 machines.
  11. I jacked up the left track and inserted some axle stands, using a bar in the drive wheel I was able to turn the track and free it off. I started the engine, applied the handbrake to the right track and put the tractor into gear, the track ran freely in both directions, left it running around for about ten minutes without problem and then took the tractor for a drive without further problem. If this happens again I will strip the final drive and see what is happening. Not sorted the slow running issue yet and have exactly the same issue on the new skimmer!
  12. Closing date for entries is 25th September, so far it looks as if there may be 15 machines on display. I think it will be a good weekend, the MERL archives will be present as will neil Jarrett and Trevor Hopkins with his amazing collection of Ransomes literature. If you have an MG tractor please try and come whatever condition your machine. If you can't bring a machine then visit and share your Ransomes experiences.
  13. Track jammed in neutral and in gear. It has happened before I think I freed it last time by jacking up the track and turning it with a bar. As there are no chains, just the two final drive gears I am mystified as to what could be actually causing it.
  14. In between moving machines around today to accomodate the skimmer, I tried moving my MG5, firstly it was a pig to start and when it did it would not slow run, I suspect either slow running jet or possibly yet another condenser failure. The main issue was that when I tried to move it the left track was locked solid, no amount of rocking back and forth or big bars to lever it would free it off. This has happened before and went away, it is not the brakes, anyone had a similar experience ?
  15. Probably not I plan on selling a few machines.
  16. Travelled home from Jedburgh loaded with skimmer and MG40 sachs, Not sure what weight I had on board but towed well. Crawler garage nearly finished but not quite so will have to have another shift around to store them away.
  17. I have a need for a machine that mows over banking , I am told it must be either two stroke or electric because it will seize due to lack of oil if you tilt a four stroke too far.
  18. I have just completed a similar job with Ransomes kit, 35 tonnes of road planings loaded and spread with the Steiner loader graded out to level with the MG40 and stone rake. My neighbour was impressed and asked me to do his drive as well !
