Cub Cadet got a reaction from jak3_smith in Cub Cadet 70 restoration
A few more bits done over the weekend and yesterday.
Finally started work on the other side of the chassis which was in a worse condition than the other side, we replaced the side in three sections so that the chassis didn't twist.
Just before welding in the last piece.
Finally finished all of the repairs on the chassis, it just needs its final coats of primer and then I can start on the yellow paint
With thanks to my grandad the tyres have been taken off the rear wheels so I can start cleaning them up.
Some more bits sandblasted

Cub Cadet reacted to Ian in Project "Why Not"
You might have a point with the lack of oxygen in the mix, I do have an interesting idea that would give me full control on how much air, how much mix goes into the exhaust and it would also atomize the mix better..
It might still come to fitting a flame thrower system, but I'm hoping my new idea will work instead..
But more on that when it happens
Yesterday the front of my workshop looked like a mower dealers Two of them are for sale as it happens, just not my two
Other than having a bit of tidy up (the workshop needed it) the reason for parking everything out front was to make space for putting my big bench up again so WN can get stripped down and painted..
For the past er... 8 odd years I've been using a bench that basically was a large computer desk with a very large slab of thick chipboard as a top.
It served me well for many a year with WN, the 6x6 and others being built on it.. However when WN was taken off the bench late last year it didn't fair too well, broke a few welds and the frame got twisted..
So yesterday a new bench frame was constructed.... Thanks for all you help and welding yesterday Nigel
It's a bit hard to tell from this photo but it has a hanging shelf frame.. I just need to add a few more bit's of box and some boards.. When I find some I will be fitting some strong castor wheels to the legs so I can move the bench about when I need to..

They used the same braces. Two bolts secure the foot rests to the braces, I believe the running boards might have used the same braces, if not they sure did a nice job make them look factory. However, I made a mistake in the beginning of the date of manufacturer and I forgot to correct information that related to build dates. If indeed your tractor is a 1973 Massey MF-7 and not a 1968 or 1969, then it would have had running boards, not foot rests. I am going to assume that the earlier pictures might have been supplied by the original owner? or were saved from the eBay ad?

The new footrests look like they might be bolted onto the old ones.

A little bit more has been done over the past few weeks , mostly cleaning up various parts and painting, here are some photos.
The wheels and brake/ clutch pedal after sandblasting.
After a coat of etch primer
A previous owner of the tractor had stripped all of the threads off of the light switch and so the nut had to be cut off.
After cutting the nut off I discovered this.
Luckily we managed to save the light switch by cutting new threads

Cub Cadet got a reaction from Ian in Cub Cadet 70 restoration
Been busy today cleaning up the chassis and painting, here's some pictures.
I'm pleased with the result after a coat of etch primer, it feels like I'm getting somewhere now
To help fill the rust pits I'm brushing on red oxide primer.
My new toy arrived last week so hopefully it should speed up the restoration and hopefully I will be able to achieve a good clean surface so I can use etch primer.

If the serial number is what I read, 15900125?, then it appears to be a very early 1969 Massey Ferguson MF-7 recoil start model, but that is not, or doesn't appear to be a Tecumseh engine, it appears to be a Briggs engine, which would be a replacement. The foot rests instead of running boards in the first picture was a clue as was the absence of the round cut out for the air breather on the rear left side of the grill, only 7's did not have the round cut out. Let me know if you need parts/service/owners manuals, I have them all on pdf files. They made the MF-7 from 1968-1973 and produced 12,927 units. My serial number list breaks down numbers by recoil start, 3 speed, and hydro models, each has a different set of serial numbers.
