DevonianRedneck got a reaction from Ian in meet susie, the 604 :)
well after a 5 hr drive, and some interesting moments loading and unloading from the back of a disco! this is now parked in my garden. at a first glance its a little daunting, but the engine turns over and the carb and tank is spotless. full set of wheel weights and the gearbox appears to work but the clutch and brake pedals are seized solid, the brake pads have rusted to the drum and the clutch linkage and steering rods are gone, thottle and choke cables have had it, the slot hitch is seized solid and lift rod has rusted though as has the battery tray! however it was love at first sight and she will be saved  ! if anyones got a kohler 141 workshop manual they could email me i would be eternally grateful, and if anyones got any of the bits missing that were listed above and are willing to part company please let me know  cheers

first jobs gonna be getting it moving under its own power, then we shall see, the bonnets got a lovely patina, but the the wings and battery tray need some welding work done so it'll probally be a full respray job, plus i have never owned a nice shiny one so this might be my chance

The core plug at the back of the head on my Td5 Disco, decided to give up the ghost. Simple job to remove and replace. Oh no.it's not. Let's fit the engine that close to the bulkhead you can just squeeze your hand in. Eight hours work to replace a £2 item.

After using up all of the stock of yellow paint from my local ag merchant they ordered some more from another one of their stores, two days later it arrived and it was a different brand of paint  somewhere along the line the paint code got lost so in desperation we made a 60 mile round trip (thanks mum) to another ag merchant and I finally got the paint meaning the last parts could be painted .

I made a new gasket for the transmission.

The wiring has now been finished and the lights work

The bonnet got its final coat of paint and my IH wheel weights arrived (thanks @Charlie Smith)

And here it is, nearly finished just a few little bits left to bolt on but it starts and runs like new! I'm very happy

Morning chaps, well yesterday was a very good day with a parcel containing custom decals arrived from Mark.. Perfect timing as it happened as all we had left to do was get WN off the bench and put some fluids in her..

So, a big Mark for the great decals, the cream rather than white works really well
I guess now's a good point to do the "before and after" thing

As arrived from Chris's collection.. The green engine wasn't part of the deal, I just needed somewhere to put it

The same machine after a bit of work

All I need now is a better seat, get the engine running (fuel starvation for some strange reason!) and a nice sunny day to get some good photo's/video footage

with regards to the angle of the discs, larger agricultural sets of a modern design are adjustable for different tasks, the sharper the angle the more aggressive the action, this is caused by the vibrating action of the discs, faster you go the better they work, this is for gaining a fine tilth. Setting the discs to no angle so they are straight is used for primary cultivations to chop fibrous matter up. Reversing the angle of the discs on a smaller set you can use them as a very basic bed former to throw soil into ridges, on dual sets you have the front set pointing forward and the rear set pointing backwards, this means the front set throws the soil out and the rear set pulls it back in resulting in a level fine seed bed.

Last year vegikev gave me 5 disc's on an old frame and 5 spare ones they've been kicking around in my driveway so today I thought ide do something with and decided to make a usable set for my mate Paul.
i have a load of steel box section of different sizes so i set to work with the electric saw and the stick welder.
heres a few photos of today's effort, still a bit more to do but I'm really pleased with it so far

The 1254 is the first Bolens I ever bought and I owed it to the old girl to get her up and running. My mate, Daniel, offered his services to get her going. He made up a new loom a while back and thanks to Rick I bought a fuel tank off him and from Brian some belts and coil. Another contact in the States, Alain, sourced me a set of stators.
I am really chuffed to hear that it is up and running, albiet briefly. Daniel informed me that "The head gasket is leaking oil out and over the exhaust manifold, i suppose this is good and bad, good that the oil is circulating the engine, but possible the rings are gone for there to be oil above the piston? The carb isn't leaking on the joint as bad but i have been turning the fuel tap off so it may do if left long enough, it is dribbling past the float, and from the adjustment screw, but nothing to loose sleep over."

Lots is going on in the run up to my first show of the year.

    The bonnet has been sandblasted

There was quite a few rust pits hence all of the filler

Trackrods have been added and stainless steel nuts and bolts have now replaced the old.

    Back on all four

Hoodstand back on with the new decal

The front grill, wiring loom and decal now in place

The new light switch that I turned from a photo of the original to match what was on the tractor.

Nearly there now, just got the seat, fenders, bonnet and then a few little pieces but I'm very happy with it!

I'm getting lots done now that I've finished school

The engine has been mostly reassembled now

The hood that was ready for the scrap bin has been patched up the best we could, at least there is metal there now, with a bit of filler it should look ok.

With thanks to the warm weather today I got lots more painting done and some parts got reassembled

Nice bit of ploughing there, Henry.  Similar combination to what is up at the farm. Though I think the plough is only 4 furrow.
