The part for the 3/8" chain option has arrived and seen in this image (right) for comparison, along with the new Bar-

Fits perfectly. The original Chain Bar is being restored to the black painted finish. Original 1/4" Chain is now as new and will I'll carry out a test to see how each chain size performs. Meanwhile it is all ready to do some cutting, hopefully tomorrow -

The new axles needed some key-ways cut in them... I was going to do it the easy way this time..

A slot mill was bought and this bit of bracket work was made for holing the axle on the lathe.

    An action shot.

    A freshly cut key-way..

Now you can start to see why this build had been taking so long to do.. 20 bit's hand made on the lathe, and these are just the front and middle axle parts!

    The front axle being mounted..

And a visit from Andy (Wheeledhorseman).

All four axles mounted, bit hard to see two of them though..

Three wheels off the ground, getting close now to the first real milestone

    Which was a rolling chassis

A quick bit of hood stretching..

And off the bench she came..

This was the first time I had been able to have a good view of her all the way around... I was very happy

Saturn 2s engine got its new clothes today, along with the air shrouds, air filters, starter, fuel tank and the flywheel screen.

Saturn 1s deck and grass box was collected from the blasters today, managed to get them painted too. The handles, roller and guard are all powder coated satin black.

Below is a photo of my Petter diesel generator. I apologise for the poor quality but it is right in a far corner of the workshop.

    The engine is a Petter single cylinder diesel AA1. Number 74343 AA1. 3bhp. 3000rpm.

The generator by EP Allan & Co.

    KVA 2.5  Serial No  1022 2P.

    110/240v  Single phase.  50 cycles.  Amps 17,4 - 8.7.

I bought this some years back when we had several long power cuts. As in days. £150. Since then we have only had very short ones. I run it now and then, but I think the neighbours, not that we have many, would be a tad upset if run through the night. It's one noisy beast.
I haven't a clue as to old it is. Hope it's of a bit of interest.

Just to say that the engine can be saved with some love.

The exaust vavles were stuck hence the engine would not turn over & the bores were full of rusty dirt.

I have removed the pistons & found dirt between the rings & a stuck ring. That would not have run for long if I left it!!

With a light hone, the bores will be ok.

Got the old spark plugs out of the heads using the gas! never had to warm plugs to get them out before

Just going through cleaning & checking items now

Well, I took the 444 out, and gave it proper workout today. Its filthy now!   We decided to expand the garden into an area right next to it, which is where we always use to park a big class A 35 ft long RV in, so the ground was very packed, and had never been broken before. I decided to take the Brinly after it, and while the plow worked great, the tractor actually had a hard time keeping it moving. It did the job, but it didn't like it!!   That ground brought it to a stop on more than one occasion. I'd have to back up, and go again. There are pics of the ground below. After we finished breaking that section, I ran the plow through a piece of ground that had been broke last year, and it went through that with ease. I'm glad you only have to break the ground once!
After finishing with the plow, we bolted the tiller on to finish off that piece of ground. I do have a complaint with this tractor when tilling. On the travel control lever, it doesn't just control your ground speed, it controls the hydraulic pressure as well, so when your trying to go slow for tilling, it will often stop, because its not getting enough power to the hydraulic motor, so you push the lever further forward, and you end up going to fast!    Its very annoying, especially when your use to using a Wheel Horse with an 8 speed trans. I love the low gears in my Horses! I've ordered a hydraulic flow control valve to eliminate this problem. It was a factory option that my 444 didn't come with, but it allows a very slow ground speed with maximum power to the ground. Personally, I don't think it should have been optional, I think they all should have been equipped with it! Here is a short clip of it tilling, and I'll get a longer, better video when I finish getting it sorted out.

I got the wheel weight painted, and installed today. I have it set up with 115 pounds per wheel right now. I like this setup quite well. My younger sons, and I were out playing with our machines a bit today, and I took a pic. The 1952 Bantam 3000 belongs to Danny, and the vintage mini bike with the early 50's Briggs Model 8 belongs to Nathan. Thanks
