pmackellow reacted to paul in horti culto
Hi All
Got this yesterday. A Allen & Simmonds horti culto with four sets of blades and a spare set of wheels. It has a Villiers mk7 engine on it but no spark as yet. Any info on these machines would be great as I have never seen one.

pmackellow reacted to Wallfish in Chip A Saw project
Bought this one in rough condition a while ago. Motor was shot, missing clutch and clutch cover.
Piston took a beating
Saw completely striped down and cleaned. Made a new tank gasket
Made a new clutch cover
Found a good engine for it but it still needs to be gone through.
It's been ready for paint for too long but just haven't got to it yet.
Thanks to Webead for the clutch and thanks to usedtoolman for the NOS bar.
This was a project posted on the old forum but still haven't completed it.

pmackellow got a reaction from wurzel in Martin Markham Colt Deluxe
A friend of mine in the vintage tractor world rang the other evening asking if I know anyone who would be interested in
a small tractor which was getting in the way in his garage.
When he mentioned the make and model the radar went up as there were only 100 of these made (so it's rarer than
a Mayfield Merlin)
Wendy and I braved the ice and snow/rain/sleet for a short (6 mile) trip this morning to pick it up, it's a Martin Markham
Colt Deluxe with a 10hp Kohler in it, these were made between 1965 and 1970 by Martin Markham in Lincolnshire.
Also pictured is the brochure that arrived a few days ago.

They are bigger than the average Wheelhorse Charlie, this is 41 inches wide, 6ft 9inches long and 41 inches high

Have been sorting out some of the engine parts this afternoon. The Recoil starter in my store was lightly beat back into shape then given a small skim of filler to make perfect. I found a brandnew but slightly dinked fuel tank in my one shed(I know you can buy Chinese ones but the profile is different and new genuine Honda ones are horrendously expensive and recently the design has changed slightly aswell). A very light skim of filler was again needed to make perfect. Both have been given a coat of filler primer which once set will be rubbed down.
At the bottom of a cupboard I also found this old type badge, again not perfect but if I cant turn up a better one, then at least ive got a pattern to get it reproduced.

Always handy when you have the literature and manuals etc for the machine

Wow! Nice little machine I too saw the one on that auction site in Hastings, this one is in far better condition, am I correct
in thinking they are slightly larger then the average wheel horse?
Hope too see it out and about this year!
PS: I got the small holders show entry form through the other day, cheers, ill send that off to you as soon as

There was a Markham tractor in the Hastings area a few months ago. I was tempted but the seller didn't fully answer my
questions or evaded his answers. I was going to get my brother to collect it and store it in his barn had I bought it for
collection at a later date. Paul, yours is in better condition than the one in Hastings. A good find.
Here's the listing number 361112210236

pmackellow reacted to Wallfish in O&R Engine rebuild pics
Decided to get some parts together and rebuild this engine for a BeJay winch I recently bought.
The engine was covered in grime and very stiff to turn over. Since it needed to be completely disassembled just to clean it, might as well do a complete rebuild and document with some pics
Here's the winch
The engine completely disassembled and parts cleaned
Some of the NOS parts to be used. Cylinder, rings, connecting rod, complete seal/gasket kit, coil, flywheel, points, carb, ect.

Started with the piston and connecting rod.
The new rod has a slot to let more oil into the bearings
New rod installed. Then did the rings
I use this motor assembly grease on everything which was recommended from Webhead
Then decided to replace the crank seal in the induction part. Had to pick the old one out with a small dental pick tool

Time to install the crank into the case
Crank installed into case, then bearing for connecting rod. then connecting rod with pistion

As we say here in the States, it will turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change
At full lock, the front and rear tires have about 1" clearance between them.
The LKs came in 5 and 6 Hp versions, all of which were manual start. The early ones in 1964-66 (models 910-01 and 910-02) had a 6 Hp Briggs. In 1966 there was also the model 911-01 with a 6 Hp. Lawson engine.
From 1967-1970 they all had 5 and 6 Hp Lawson engines.
I have it's 'big brother' a 1964 Estate Keeper 7, and they are a lot of fun to operate. Takes a little getting used to it, but after than it's loads of fun.
The are also great mowers as the deck is out front and cuts the grass before any wheels run over it.
While you can't classify them as garden tractors, there was a front blade available for the LKs, and the EKs had a snowcaster available in addition tot he blade.
My EK7 with a 32" snowcaster and with a 30" cylinder mower:
