Getting The Working Wheelhorse Ready

Recommended Posts

Got me Raider 12 back from Johns yesterday after its tour of duty at his place over the last few weeks.

Decided to do a few jobs to it and the first thing was a front weight carrier made from some angle iron and an old mule drive so i can unclip it when not in use, i made it to take 2 weights but I think one will be enough. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

What weight is it Norm, looks like it came out of Carols washing machine

:scratchhead: Heavy! I keep meaning to take it up to the farm and weigh it. Think it's off one of those fitness machines.

The other thing i did today is to start sorting my sight poles. I found some stainless thick wall 1" tube, cut it down to 5ft 6" and painted the first coat of red.

it wont worp or go rusty

You could do with points on one end.

How can i put points on tube

You've got a lathe. Turn some inserts with a shoulder to butt against the pipe end and a point on one end. Then drill and pin them to stop them falling out.  Simples!

You'll also need some way to carry them.

cut 3 triangles out of the end of the pole, base of the triangle at the end, and bash the points left on the pole together with a blob of weld to hold them.

Had a go at changing the front wide wheels to narrow ones today.

I found a pair of wheels at Johns with back plates and drums which im not using ( don't think the wheelhorse needs front brakes ) dont know what they were from but were painted a sort of air force blue.

with a bit of machining in the lathe 2 sleeves were made and thick washers and a bit of drilling and tapping.

heres how far ive got today.
