G621 Very early Rote Ho Gem 1943

Tonight I painted the wheels in etch primer. As tempting as it was to fill in all the flaws in the castings, I again left it as factory finish.

Here's a sneak peak at my 1946 series 1 gem that the other plate is for. It's hardly ever been used scince new, but was suffering the ravashes of time from living outside in a open ended shed that wasn't big enough to properly house it.

    1973 Raider 12

A few photos if the tear down. Its surprising how quickly these Wheelhorses come apart. Someone must have had a problem with the belt slipping at one point and made up a couple of crude brackets. The rear most one was actually wearing away the back of the belt. That Kohler engine is one heavy son of a bitch. They are certainly made to last. The Wheelhorse has been painted at some point in its life and after the engine was removed i found a patch of the original paint, which was quite pink to my surprise. Most of the information i have found about paint colours say to use International Harvester 2150. The closest i can find, going by what was under the engine is Ral 3001 signal red. Now the work hard really begins, cleaning, sanding and painting.

    More finds at John's.

A few more items found weeks ago while clearing out at John's. First, a 9" diameter wheel. Crude and not perfectly round. Any idea's anyone. Steering or control wheel.? 1/2" bar and split clamp with 1/2" bore. Next, an odd looking spring compressor. Third is a Potato lifter ? Can be angled left or right. Well, it could if it wasn't it seized up. Various other seized up adjustments too. And the biggest turnbuckle / tensioner the Showman says he has ever seen. He is wondering if he can use it on a future project. Mentioned on the forum recently was a few lengths of box section steel with Royal Mail lettering. Stormin Norm requested they be thrown into the Showman's van for him for when they next meet. Chris was muttering something today about making a special delivery, signed for and tracked, trip. Well, his van is red. After tearing himself away from tea and coffee making duties at home, he has to keep his builders happy, Chris was sent to collect some roofing tiles from John. Where else. To make the trip worth while, and due to a shortage of red bits, another load of sticks went back home with him. Another nice but cold "What can we find today" day.

Yes please. I doubt it will ever be used, but repaired and cleaned up, will be a good exhibit behind one of the horses.
