    Mower Deck refurbishment

This has been propped up against the wall in my garage since 2010 and came with the Raider/C-120. Need to get this up and running, so I dragged it out for a quick check/inspection- Not a lot of meat left on that anti scalp Roller!. All solid Shell with no weld repairs and all free moving parts. Bearings are smooth tight and have been well greased. Needs new Blades, Roller and a few bolts. Carrier Frame needs some work, so will take time out from the Traction Engine and take advantage of good late summer weather. May have to replace the Deck Wheels as well, several chunks of rubber missing!. Nearly finished the Mule Drive.

Great video, Good drivers. If you decide to upload it to you tube, might want to rotate it 90 degrees to the right. I do this all the time.

You might think about opening a you tube account then your videos would play automatically and wouldn't have a 10-15 min download time. Nigel has a awesome one as do many others here, its not too hard.

    The Roller from Cromer

I did wonder how Chris was going to get it up into his yard. And I'd like to know, if when the Trachorse front end came down, did the house escape unscathed?

Great pictures. I would love to know what Chris is thinking in the first pictures, you can almost see the cogs turning . I can now see why he was pleased Pam was out for the day. The trachorse did a great job. The bit I cut off the back of the roller makes it look a bit rude Iain

    Engine exchange

Thanks lads. Well I got the Hayterette up on my bench today. I undid the bolt holding the blade disc and it freed up well ( Lucky me ). Engine out of the ally body and stored. Took the engine out of the Sovereign, removed the drive pully and it slotted in a treat. Could not believe how well it went. As the new engine is so good I am going to bare metal respray the body and respray the motor. the wheels will go in the dishwasher when the wife is out ( they are plastic rims ). Just need to sort out the modern lever to shut the engine down on the handlebars via the cable. Any advice would help on that one. Sorry can't do photos. Hope to give this a new lease of life. Then I am going to restore a Hayter 21 just for fun. Regards Potash.

I think the battery hold down is correct, just not the battery. The Hydro is awesome on the Bolens, but late model geared tractors aren't as common, so nice to see them as well. Thanks for the pictures.

    Bolens QT17 Grading

I've had both models, and both drove the transmission off the flywheel side, while earlier tube frames and large frames powered the transmission off the PTO side. Not saying one is better, just different. I noticed you have the same issue I have, the current battery is too big for the plastic hold down.

Actually the QT16 was a 16hp Onan Twin cylinder and the QS16 was the 16 hp Kohler single cylinder, the Q stood for Quiet model or Quiet line and the T and S stood for twin or single. The QT series and XL series Medium Frame tractors had the engine oriented 180 degrees differently than the earlier Bolens tractors.
