This little thing belonged to my father. Not sure what it is for, but I think it is some kind of rev counter. Only about three inches long. There is a rubber on the end, the point of which I think goes in the centre of shaft/spindle or whatever. That revolves and the dial moves round the graduations.

The rear castor's plastic rollers were starting to show their age. So I decided to make two new ones. A nice piece of oak was cadged of a joiner friend and rollers turned up in the lathe. I think they should last a while.

And if you think that's bad, you should see the inside.

Oh no it's not! Chris said he was thinking about selling the gantry, as he has acquired an engine crane. So in exchange for a bob or two, the gantry made the trip North. He neglected to supply the pins, so I had to make my own. Also marked the top ends and corresponding upright sides. I've used the top holes to give maximum height. A hand ratchet hoist hanging around, now hangs on the gantry. A nice big cable tie keeps it out of the way when not in use. As the i.d. of box section for the top, is slightly bigger than the o.d. of the legs, some side movement was evident. So a couple of wedges fitted and they stopped that. No need to dismantle it, as a tractor sits under it and takes up very little, if any extra space. Dismantled I'd have to find space somewhere to store it.

If I was mowing a nice flat lawn, Andrew, I wouldn't use ag's myself. But the green and verges are a little on the uneven side. I went round the green with the scarifier the other day, using the Black Horse fitted with ag's and wheel weights. Marking was minimal.

Oh! You've noticed.

When mowing the green and verges, the grass is seldom dry. If I waited for it to be fully dry, it would never get done. Consequently the grass cuttings stick to the turf tyres on the C-125. When they come off during mowing they lie in unsightly lumps or strips. Also the pattern of the turf tyres makes them a pain to clean. I've decided to try an experiment. I'd the original rear wheels, complete with ag tyres off the Black Horse in storage. So these are now fitted to the C-125. We'll see how things go next time I mow, in maybe a week or so. Another thing I've tried, is to repair a tyre valve on one of the wheels. The valve must have got knocked when in storage and the rubber was partly broken. Push the valve to one side and air came out. This was repaired with super glue yesterday. To date it is holding air again. We'll see how long it lasts.

For some reason I spotted that Disco before.

I like the early Ford Capri. I had a metallic blue one. Also three of the white Cortinas. All 2.0 ltr. One again metallic blue, One orange GT and a metallic brown estate. Weak point was the camshafts. The lobs wore pretty quickly. Easy to change though.

Had plenty of seat time today. As it was a good forecast for the day, I thought I'd better do some catch up round the garden, green and verges. Front hedges and bushes needed trimming, so that was the first job. After a run out for fresh petrol supply. Next came the lawn and verge outside the house. When I'd returned from my week down south, the grass had shot up. Even though it was wet, on Tuesday, I cut the green and verges on a slightly higher setting than normal. The cut grass was left lying. Today I thought I'd better do something about it as it looked untidy. I wasn't sure if the sweeper would pick it up as it was, so using the Black Horse and a scarifier/rake thingy the Showman gave me a couple of years back, I roughed up the lying grass. Swapped the rake for the sweeper and got the grass cleaned up. Then it was the turn of the C-125 and cutter deck. Green and verges mowed, albeit slowly, as the grass was still quite wet. While doing the green, the deck decided to lose a wheel. This necessitated a workshop visit and both wheels were changed for those off the dead side discharge. Though a slightly larger diameter, with the rear of the deck dropped a notch, mowing commenced with no further mishaps. All this took around 5ltrs of petrol and nine hours, including removing and cleaning the deck and tractor. Which I always do after use. Still got the green and verges to sweep, but they will be done Monday or Tuesday. Rain forecast for all day tomorrow. Well it is a Bank Holiday weekend.
