Lovely job there Norm .
I wonder if anyone has tried 6908 bearings which are 40mm x 62mm x 12mm which would indicate no case machining required, just thin sleeves for o/d & i/d, & maybe a thin shim for axial positioning. I wonder if they would be man enough for the job. It would certainly appear a lot less hassle ( & expense ) than machining the cases or diff.
If they would work OK, there could be a "nice little earner" for someone with a lathe making & selling kits of sleeves & shims,(Ian, Mark, Richard)? :D

What size ram are you looking for Mark? We use various short cylinders on our machines for hydro-pneumatic suspension,4/w/steering etc there are usually some in the skip.

Hi Nigel
The layout looks pretty similar, if you remove the end cap with the knob on I would think you should see the end of the piston, maybe it has seized in the bore -water in the oil- and the `clunk' is the play between the pushrod and the piston

With that exhaust pointing where it does your passengers will have the benefit of warm air heating :D

Hi Tom
Books available from many sources, you could try `Chronos' at Dunstable, they have many reprints of older engineering books in stock as well as any materials and tooling you could wish for.All laid out on benches for you perusal. You can find them on a certain auction site or thier website. They are a mile or so just off the M1 junction 11 Luton-Dunstable road, towards Dunstable.
They have an industrial unit which is a veritable `Alladins cave' I can spend hours wandering around inside if I'm in the area.
regards Doug.

Went to the machinery sale today after a finger bar mower for my BCS, it made a lot of money so I bought these instead. The same size I have on my C121. 7.00 x 12 Continental 4ply. 26" dia Unused, only thing is,4.25" pcd instead of 4.5" & centre hole is smaller, but nice thick centre so they can be re-drilled, or I may turn up some new hubs instead. Cost: £100 .00p for 4.

Shouldn't the throttle butterfly be partialy closed when running at full throttle with no load,? That would show the governor is working if revs maintain when load increases.
If it,s an NGK spark plug I would change it,they don't seem to be very good nowadays. I had problems with my C121 which turned out to be the exhaust valve too tight on clearance.
The problems I have now are with Honda engines if they are left for over a month without starting I have to strip & clean the carbs to get them to run properly on the c**p they sell as petrol Wth the Briggs V twins it's air filter off & flat out then hand over the carb which usually clears it.Try a temporary fuel supply ie a can above the level of the carb & see if it improves things.Iv'e lost count of the number of lawn mowers that iv'e stripped/cleaned carbs on for neighbours with starting/running problems, ( thats the mowers, not the neighbours ) :)

When I use a holesaw I change the pilot drill to a length of 1/4" silver steel, especially for thinner material, it keeps the holesaw running true otherwise the flutes in the drill cause the saw to run out of true. the correct drill for a holesaw has a flute length that ends before the saw starts cutting, but they have usually been replaced at some time or other
